ALARM-LOCK.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS NAGY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Alarm-Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to alarms and more especially to locks containing means whereby an electric circuit is completed when any of the parts of the lock are moved or tampered with as when the knob is turned for a short distance the circuit is immediately closed and a bell is rung within the house, also when the tumblers of the lock are moved the shortest distance, the circuit may also be closed in order to ring the alarm. These and other details and objects of the invention are more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the claim and illustrated in the drawings, wherein,

The lock may be of any desired type but the drawing illustrates an ordinary mortise lock having the usual spring bolt 5 for the knob and the locking bolts 6 of ordinary construction, the former being operated by the fingers 7 on the hub 8, through which the spindle of the knob passes. These fingers 7 operate on lugs 9, which withdraw the frame 10 and the bolt 5 whichever way the knob is rotated. On the upper edge of the frame 10 is secured a spring finger 11, while within the upper wall of the lock frame is an insulated block 12, carrying a contacting strip 13 with which the finger 11 makes contact, the strip 13 being connected with a wire 14 forming a part of an electric circuit. With the least movement of the knob the hub 8 is rotated, causing one of the fingers to retract the frame 10 so that the finger 11 makes contact with the strip 13, completing the circuit at that point. The other terminal of the circuit is the wire 15 which is brought in contact with the frame by means of a screw 16 which also serves to secure an insulated block 17 to the lower wall of the block. This block 17 carries the spring finger 18 so arranged as to make contact with a finger 19, carried by the bolt 6 whenever the lock is moved inward or Specification of Letters Patent.

One of the tumblers 20 also carries a spring finger 21, and when the key is lnserted in the hole 22 and turned either way, the elevation of the tumbler causes the finger 21 to make contact with the finger 18 and close the circuit, comprising the lock frame through the medium ofthe wire 15, a ground wire 23 and out of the wire 14.
At one side of the door 24 are buttons 25, forming terminals for the wires 14 and 15 and these buttons make contact with spring fingers 26, which are terminals for wires 27 and 28 forming part of the circuit which embraces the battery 29 and bell 30', so that when the finger 11 and strip 12 make contact a circuit is also set up between the wire 15, the frame of the lock and the wire 11, to ring This is also done when contact with the finger 18 is made and the occupants of the house may then know that an attemptis being made to open the door of the house.
This device may also be utilized. as the door bell for the house and any party desiring to notify the occupants of his presence will simply turn the knob of the door which rings the bell and informs the occupants that someone wishes entrance or an interview.
It is obvious that the parts may be otherwise arranged and modified without departing from the essential features above described.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
In an alarm lock, the combination with a casing, of an insulating block within one of the walls of the casing, a contact plate on the block, an electric circuit with one end connected to the contact plate, a spring bolt with a finger adapted to make contact with the plate, a second insulating block, a spring contact plate carried by same, a key bolt with a finger to make contact with the latter plate, a tumbler with a finger to make contact with the latter plate, a connecting wire between the plates, and means connecting the other end of the circuit with the casing, the bolts and the tumblers.
