ELECTRICAL DEVICE.
Application led December 20, 1911.
To all whom 5t 'may concern:
Be it known that I, JEREMIAH CRnEDoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvanla, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Electrical Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention is an improved electric device for use by policemen and others in making arrests, subduing unruly persons and resisting attacks and consists essentially in a glove or pair of gloves provided with electrodes which may be brought in contact with a person grasped by the hand of the wearer of the glove and means including an electric circuit, the terminals of which are formed by the said electrodes, to supply an electric shock to the person grasped, the invention consisting in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is partly a perspective and partly a diagrammatic view of an elect-ric device constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a detail section through a portion of one of the gloves, showing the electrodes therein; and Fig. 3 is a detail elevation of the coil and battery.
In accordance with my invention I provide a belt l, to'be worn around the waist and which is here shown as having a suitable buckle 2. A compact storage battery 3 is carried by the belt and is connected in electric circuit, by conductors 4f, with the primary windings of an induction coil 5. The secondary windings of the induction coil are connected by flexible, insulated conducting cords or cables 6 to elect-rode plates 7 which are located in the palms of a pair of gloves 8, the electrode plates being insulated from the gloves and from the hands of the wearer by insulating disks 9. One of the gloves is also provided on the palm portion with a circuit closer 10 for the primary circuit which includes the battery, the primary windings of the induction coil and the interrupter. This circuit closer includes a spring contact 11 which is normally, by its Specication of Letters latent.

own spring action, removed from the contact 12 and when the wearer of the gloves grasps a person, the pressure closes this circuit, thereby putting the apparatus in operation and causing the grasped person to be subjected to electrical shocks as will be understood, and hence enabling the person thus grasped to be readily overcome or successfully resisted.
By means of my invention a policeman or other law officer can make an arrest, even of a very unruly person, Without the necessity of beating him with a club or inflicting bodily injury and in the event that a person, say a woman, should be attacked, she could successfully defend herself by merely graspi-ng the wrist of the assailant. I also provide an electric lamp 13 which preferably has a supporting stem lt of suitable length, through which lead conductors which eX- tend from a pair of contact devices 15 disposed at the base of the stem, which contact devices are adapted to be applied to the contact devices 7 of that glove which is not provided with the circuit closer. The said contact devices 7 of the said glove are connected to the poles of the battery by means of a pair of conducting wires 16 which are connected to the conductors 6. When the contact devices of the lamp are placed on the contacts 7 of the glove and the hand closed so as to hold the lamp in such position current willvbe supplied thereto from the battery through the conductors 16 and 6 as will be understood and hence the person using the device may be provided with a light.
For vthe purposes of this specification the electric lamp is shown in Fig. 1 detached from the right hand glove. It will be understood from the foregoing description that by placing the contact devices of the lamp on those of the glove and then closing the hand so as to hold the lamp in that position, the lamp will be supplied with current.
Having thus described my invention I claim:
