Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented nec. 1o, 11912.
Application iled March 4, 1912. SerialxNo. 681,600.
To all whom t may concern.: A
Be it .known that I, CHARLES W. EVANS, a
State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Footwear, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a pad for the ball of the foot and which is located between thev inner and outer soles of the shoe.
The further object of this invention is to perforate the pad so that it will be iexible, and the further object is to unite the pad to a fabric which is located between the soles of the shoe and united thereto, which will prevent creeping of the pad.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 my -improvements in which portions are broken' away to more clearly show the construction. Fig. 2 is a bottom view in which portions are broken away. Fig. 3 is a section on line a a Fig. 1. I
The shoe illustrated in the drawings in 9 and upper 3 suitably united by stitching.
The inner sole 2 is formed with a recess 4 in its underface and located adjacent to theY ball of the foot of the wearer. Within the recess is located a felt pad 5 formed 'with openings 6 extending transverse. 'to the length of the shoe, and in two rows. This is united to a canvas lining 7 by the stitching 8. The canvas lining is connected to the meeting facesof the inner and outer soles, and the pad is cemented within the recess 4: of the linner sole and to the canvas lining.
The pad is held against displacement orI creeping within the recess 4f, by t-he stitching 8 and by being connected to the lining and cemented within the recess.
By locating the pad between the lining and outer sole it is protected from moisture either from the foot or from outside.
In use, the pad being located to receive the ball of the foot of the wearer will form a veryfxflexible Support.
I claim as my invention.
1. A shoey comprising inner and outer soles, the inner sole formed with a recess in its underface, a pad located in the recess and formed with perforations and secured in the recess, a Ilining located between the solesand stitched to the pad. l
2. A shoe comprising in'ner `and outer soles, the inner sole formed with a recess in its under-face, a pad located in and vsecured in the recess and formed with perforations, and a lining located between the soles, be-
ing secured thereto and stitched to the pad.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses. p
CHARLES W; EVANS.
