To all whom it may concern I Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. TOMB, of Tiflin, in the county of Seneca and in the State of Ohio, have invented certainlnew and useful Improvements in Corn-Planters; aml do hereby declare that the fol-- lowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making-a part of this specification.

Thenature of my invention .consists'in the construction and arrangement of an improved cornplanter, in which .the dropping-boxes are' placed under the axle-tree. V

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I,,will now proceedto describe its construction and operation, referring to thc'annexed drawing, in which-' i Figure l is a transverse vertical section, and \FignreZ is a plan -view of my corn-planter. Across the lower ends of the bars H H, under the tongup b, is secured the corn-plow N, and under the platform are pivoted the .covering-plowsfi O.

By having the dropping done right under the axletree, it gives the machinea chance" to drop the last roivat the comingout, which other machines cannot do, in consequence of being-in rear.

The slide f is connected with an arm, I, which is of the same curvature as the bars H H, and fits between them, resting upon the rollera.

The arm Iis then attached to a projection, 71, on the shaft R, pivoted on the side beams B B.

Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A corn-planter, so constructed as to have the dropping-boxes under the axle-tree, all as shownand described.

2. Th'e'hopper J, divided into two compartments,

provided with slide f, all arrangcd'and operating sub-' stantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.

3. The plowsO 0, attached to the platform I, and made adjustable by means of the pins or bolts (1 d, constructed and arranged substantially as herein set forth.

4. The combination and arrangement of the bars H H with roller 0, platform I, plows N,and O O,-hopper J, chain K, shaft L, and lever M, allsubstantially as shown and described.

5. The arrangement-of theslide f, arm I, shaft R, and rod S with the hopper J, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
