cheap, and efficient construction, better adapted to its intended purposes than any other device of the same class with which I- am acquainted. l I
A further object of the inventlon is to provide improved clamping jaws having broad bearing surfaces adapted to take over and engage the marginal edges of the lapboard and material to be wrought upon, whereby the latter is securely held and maintained in proper position without in any way injuring the same.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the clamping members will be stopped at certain predetermined points in their opening and closing movements, and whereby the clamping jaws will be maintained in a substantial parallel position with respect to each other.
With the above-mentioned and other ends in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

The improved clamping device comprises a pair: of clamping members 1, cut or stamped from suitable sheet metal, and provided at the sides with integral bearing ln s 2, the latter being bent to substantially rig t angles to the clamping members 1, and ex-' tending toward and overlapping each other and providedwith bearing openings adapted to receive and contain a pivot pin 3.
As a means for moving the clamping jaws 1, toward each other as well as giving said jaws the proper clamping action when mounted or secured, as illustrated in Figs.
1, and 9., of the drawings, a spring member consisting of coils 1, and oppositely disposed loop members 5, is mounted and interposed between the clamping lever member 1", the loops 5, being mounted upon the pivot pin 3, whereby the spring member is securely maintained in proper relative position, as illustrated mostclearly in Figs. 3, and 4, of the drawings. As a means for stopping or holding the clamping members at certain predetermined points or positions, and particularly as a means for holding the clamping jaws '1, in an approximately parallel position when the clamping jaws are removed, as illustrated in Fig. 4, of the drawings, the bearing lugs 52, of one of the clamping members are beveled or inclined forming stops 2, to engage and cooperate with the adjacent or opposed clamping member, whereby a limited movement only will be given to the clamping members 1, in the opening and closing movements of the same.
It will also he observed that a broad hear ing surface is provided by the clampingjaws 1, whereby to securely engage the adjacent clampedparts and prevent injury to the latter.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.
Having thus described an embodiment of my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,-
1. In a spring clamp, a pair of fiat spring actuated clamping members substantially spaced from each other and each provided with a pair of bearing lugs pivotally con nected to each other, the bearing lugs of one of said clamping members being mounted within the bearing lugs of the opposite clamping member and being provided with stops adapted to contact with the latter at certain predetermined points, whereby the opening and closing movements of said clamping members are'limited in extent.
2. In a spring clamp, a pair of flat spring I0 actuated clamping members substantially spaced from each other, and provided with ing stops adapted to hold the jaws of said clamping members in spaced relation to each 'other when said clamping members are not in use.
