` Be` itknow that 1,".InssE Quarsrfuton, of Bueyrus, in the "county `of Crawford in the State of ,0hio,
" have' invented a new andimproved Quartz0msher; Sand I' do' hereby declare that thefollowing is a full,
clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilledin the art to make and use thesame,
. referencebeingjhadto' the ,accompanying drawing forming partoi'this'specificaticn, inwhich- 1 Figurel represents aside elevation, partly in secf tion,` of my improved quartz-crashen Figure 2` is' a horizontal-section of the'same, taken on theplane of the-linea z, dgl-1. r, "u Similar lettersof reference indicate corresponding This invention relates to improvements in quartzerushers of that kind in which two or more rotary crushersare employed upon a circular hed,
The invention :consists -in a` new construction of scraper, and in the applicationV to the crusher-shals of --a series of dustfprotectors, as hereinafter more fully described.
j A, in the drawing, represents the flame of my? iins 'proved quartz-cmsher. It is made of wood, metal,or `other suitable material, `'of suitable size, and-strong enough to support themachinery which is connected with the apparatus.
Bis the vertical maiushat of the-apparatus.` It
l "has snit-ablebearingsinrthe frame A, and receives ro- `tary motion by means of gearing or otherwise ,from
l the' driving-shatxa s l I) is the bed ofthe crusher. It is placed horizontally upon the. frame A, and is made circular by mans o( projecting rim a, as shown. i
E E are .thecrushers `They are wheels made'of stone ormetal, or lined at the edges with the latter material. l Their crushing part or main body is cylindrical, so that the edges are parallel, as shown. There are two such crusheislhnng loose upon opposite ends oi' a horizontal shaft, F. This' shaft F has an eye in the'middle, andis fitted loosely around the shaft B, so that'it may movlevupjanddown on the same, and not be affected directly bythe rotation of the same.
`` The ends of the shaft `I are, by means of pivoted springs G G, connected with Vthe endsof arms H H, that project from the shaftB atright angles 'to F.`
The arms H are rmly attached to the shaft B,`and serve to carry the shaft F andthe crfusheis E around y with the same'.
The springs G- allow the crushersl to yield vertically to material of varying thickness.
II are other arms projecting from the shaft B, a
short distance above the bed D. `'.lheir ends are, by means of' cords orv chains l), connected with the ends of a scraper, J. VJIhis scraper rests upon the bed D, and works loose around the shaft B, and is so shaped, es shown in iig. 2, as'to sweep the material onthe bed. towardv the crushers. r
The flexible fastening b allows it to yield to unequalV s layers of quartz.'
`'Jlhe crushers E have tubular inner projectipns c c,
emhracingthe shaft B, and serving to keep the dust from the bearings of the crusher.l
A hood, d, is placedoverthe arms H for the same .filled with a suitable quantity of weights, and imparts, by. resting upon the Crushers, power to .the same. i
A metal ring, c, is secured to the under side of the` pan, to furnish a narrow support for the same on the i 'crushers, the latter, worlring on a circular path, turn quicker'o'n their outer than on their inner sides, and would, therefore, produce considerable friction on the pan L, should the same rest upon the whole width of the crushers. y
When the quartz has been reduced to the required degree of iineness, a plug, j, in the bed D, is withdrawn, and thereby the upper end of a spout, g, opened.v The spout conducts the quartz into the amalgam-puniti, in which a suitable stigrer, N is set up. v
.Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure hy Letters Patent- 1. The tubes 'c c and hood d, arranged with relation to the crnshers -E E, shaft-sj?, and arms H H, as and for the purpose specified. i
2. 'lhe scraper J, constructed as shown, arranged loose on the shaft B," andconnected with the xcd arms I of the same by means of the chains b 1),as and for the purpose specified.
3. The weight-pan L c, crushers E E, shafts F B, scraper'J, arms I, bed D a, all combined, constructed, and arranged to operate as shown and described.
Titnessem j JESSE QUAINTANCE.
