To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that we, PHILIP Fnmnnnron and JOI-IN Fninnnnion, citizens ot the United States, residing at Salina, in the county of Saline, Stat-e of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Clothes-Drainer, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to clothes drainers.

rllhe primary object of the present invention is to provide a clothes drainer which may be conveniently suspended in a boiler, the suspending means permitting the drainer to be adjusted vertically within the boiler.

ln the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing the device positioned in the boiler.

ln the drawings, 10 designates a boiler in which the drainer is positioned. The drainer consists ot' the receptacle 11, which is substantially elliptical in cross section and is composed ot the upper and lower longitudinal strands 12 and 14, and the vertically dispos-ed strands 15, the vertically disposed strands being embraced by the intermediate longitudinal member 16 which is rigidly attached thereto. The suspending mechanism which is positioned at either end of the drainer is preferably formed of a single piece of wire bent intermediate its ends to form the handle 17, the vertically disposed portion 18 of the Wire being bent upon itself at various point-s to form the loops 19 which engage over the edge 20 of the boiler or other receptacle. lt will be noted by referring to Fig. 2 that the drainer may be adjusted within the receptacle 10 by bringing the second or the third pair of loops 19 to a position to overhang the edge 20 ot' the boiler.

The drainer is provided with a substantially convex elliptical bottom 21 which is composed ot the outer strand 22 connected by the transverse strands 24 and the longitudinal strand 25. This bottom member is secured to the lower strand 14 by the S- shaped securing devices 2G, the bottom 21 thus being permitted to swing in either direction, and the bottom of the drainer being oi3 such a size that the outer strand 22 is spaced from the strand 14. ylhe substantially l..shaped latch member 27 is rigidly connected to the strand 22 on the side remote from the hangers 26, the extension 28 of the member 27 embracing the strand 14 and extending parallel with the vertical stra-nd. nals 31 and 32 coiled about the intermediate strand 16 the downwardly disposed portion 33 ot' said member being formed with an offset 34 which extends within the loop 35 ot the latch member 27, holding said latch member in contact with the strand 14 and supporting the bottom member against falling. The strands 31 and 32 are bent outwardly at 37 in order that the operator may conveniently withdraw the latch member to release the bottom to remove t-he clothes from the drainer, lt will be noted by this construction that the drainer may be readily positioned in the receptacle and supported at various heights, and the clothes readily removed from the drainer after the same has been removed i'rom the receptacle.

Particular attention is called to the peculiar construction oi' the latch mechanism, which supports the bottom section. Attention is drawn to the ifa-ct that this latch mechanism may be readily operated without the hands of the operator being subjected t0 the draining hot water or coming in contact with the clothes.

What is claimed is:

1. A drainer comprising a plurality of longitudinal strands, vertical strands connected to the upper and lower ot the longitudinal strands, a hanger pivotally supported by the lower strand at either end of the drainer, said hanger being formed with an oft-set portion arranged to extend over and contact with the upper strands, a convex bottom member pivotally supportedvby the lower strands, a catch member comprising a strand of wire, the terminals of which are coiled about one of the strands ot the bottom member, said latch member being rigidly supported on said bottom member, and a latch member pivotally supported by one oi the longitudinal strands ont' the drainer, said latch member being arranged to contact with the rst mentioned latch member to maintain the bottom in closed position.

2. A drainer comprising a plurality of longitudinal strands, vertical strands connected to the upper and lower of the longitudinal strands, a hanger pivotally supported by the lower strands at either end of the drainer, said hanger being formed with an oft-set portion arranged to entend over and contact with the upper strands, a convex bottom member pivotally supported by the lower strands, a latch member rigidly supported by said bottom member, said latch member being formed with an o-set arranged to embrace the lower longitudinal member of the drainer, a cooperating latch member supported by one of the longitudinal strands of the drainer, said latch member being formed of a single strand of wire, the terminals of which are coiled about a longitudinal strand of the drainer, said latch member being formed with outwardly bent portions whereby the Same may be manipulated at a point remote from the drainer.
