Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 13, 191i.
Patented Nov. 19, twi
Serial No. 659,919.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANDREW WINEMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Dose-Measuring Bottles, and declare the following to be a full, clear,
.and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyin drawings, which form a part of this speci cation.-
Ihis invention relates to dose measuring receptacles and has for its object a receptacle or bottle which is especially designed for travelers in order that a spoon may be dispensed with.
The construction of the-bottle is such that the dose measuring compartment, so that when the dose enters therein, it may be confined there until it has been taken by the user, who applies his lips to the aperture closed by a second and smaller stopper.
In the drawings :'Figure 1,. is a Vertical section of the bottle. Fig. 2, is a vertical section of a modified form.
1, is a bottle of ordinary shape, provided \with a neck 2 that has a. suspended portion 3. -At one side and at the top, the bottle is provided with an aperture 4 which leads into a portion of the bottle interior, which is partitioned 0% into a separate compartment by the partition 5 that joins the side of the bottle wall with the depending neck extension 3.- A passage 6 leads from the compartment 7 to the interior of the neck portion, so that when the main stopper 8 is pushed down, it acts as a closure for the passage 6. v
When it is desired to fill the dose measuring compartment, the stopper 8 is raised slightly so as to bring it above the passage 6, the bottle is then tilted and some of its contents allowed to run into the compartment 7, when the stopper again is pushed down, thereby closing the compartment. When it is desired to take the dose, the user removes the small stopper 9 that engages in the aperture 4: and applies his lips to this aperture. This compartment maybe made in Various shapes, it depending on the use to which the bottle is'tobe put. made to ,hold a teaspoonful, or twoteaportion havin It "may be spoonsful, or it may be used to hold a tablespoonful, or graduations may be placed upon the wall of the bottle adjacent this compartment to represent different measure ments.
Fig. 2, shows the same invention embodied in a bottle of somewhat difierent design. In this bottle the suspended neck portion 3is omitted, While the partition 5 is formed when the bottle is being manufactured by inserting a piece of metal through the side wall of the bottle causing that wall to double upon itself as shown at 5, leaving the passage at 6. This afiords a convenient and cheap method of manufacture. The
stopper 8 comes down below the passage 6 and also acts as a closure therefor. Otherwise the measuring compartment is the same as in Fig. l.
What I claim is 1. A dose measuring receptacle, having in combination a receptacle provided with a neck, a separate compartment opening into the receptacle portion proper at or near the neck, an ordinary stopper, such as a cork or a wooden or rubber plug, adapted to control the main passage through the neck and also control the passage from the neck into the compartment and a stopper adapted to close the aperture leading from the outside into said compartment, scribed. I
2. In' a bottle, a body portion and a neck portion, a partition in the body portion forming with the wall of the body portion a dose measuring receptacle, said measuring receptacle having a lateral inlet opening in substantial ahnement with the wall of the neck portion, and the wall of the body an outlet opening for said receptacle, an a stopper for the neck por tion of the bottle, said stopper being of a length to overlie the inlet opening of the measuring receptacle and adapted to slide -in said neck whereby to expose the inlet opening of the measuring receptacle while maintaining closed the neck of the bottle.
In testimony whereof, I sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
VIRGINIA C. SPRATTT. STUART O. BARNES.
