Be it known that l, Enna F. Horrrrirs, a citizen of the' United States, residing at Chicago, in the county di Cook and State oi illinois, have invented certain new and useiul improvements in Sparlnllugs, olf which -the following is a specification.

The embodiment herein shown of my in vention comprises a bushing 1 having a screw-threaded .portion 1*L adapted to .be screwed into an engineV frame A and a portion 1b adapted to be engaged by a suitableA .Wrench for turning the bushing.- Within the bushing 1v is a. sleeve 2 of irlsulating material and this sleeve is lined with a thin sleeve 3 o' metal or other Wear-resisting material. f
Sli'dahlymounted in the sleeve 3 is a rod i having a head 5 at one end, said head having thereon an electrode in the :term of' end of the 4bushing 1 and mak-e electrical contact therewith. Said flange has an edge A`which cornes in contact with the bushing and tends to out through any insulating sub stance thatl may collect on either the bushing or the edge of the fange.

As will be seen an electric circuit is estab lished through the member 11, rod llbus' hing 1 and the engine 'frame A, and this circuit isnormally' closed, hut may he broken by sliding the rod l tov carry the electrode 6 ,away trom the end of the bushing 1. Such separation will draw a large spark between said electrode and bushing 1l The spark plug may be operated in any desired manner as by means of a rotary shaft 15 having a cam '16 thereon arranged to engage the lower end of the nut 14 Aand move the rod '4i upwardly. An insulating member 17 may be secured to the nut le to prevent electrical contact `oetWeen the. cam lli and said nut.
l claim as my invention:
l. 'In a spark plug in combination, a bush ing adapted to be screwed into anengine frame, an insulating lining in said bushing, a rod slidable in said lining and having an electrode at one end said electrode having a lange Withen edge thereon, said edge being adapted to engage the end of said bush ing2 and means tending to hold said rod in position vvhere said electrode engages said bushing.
