Description

STANISLAW FLIS, 0F CUR ,TISVTLLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
N'UTGRACKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. minis.
Application filed January 27, 1912. Serial No. 673,906.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, .STANISLAW FLIS, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Curtisville, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania,-have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nutcrackers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein .to the accompanying drawing. a
r This invention:relatesv to a nut cracking device, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a nut cracking device wherein simple and effective means are employed, in a manner as will be hereinafter set forth, for cracking or crushing the shell of a nut, without particles of the nut being projected from the deviceduring the oracle mg operation, thereby preventing waste of the cracked or crushed nut.
Another object of this invention is to provide a nut cracking device thatfis simple in construction, durable, and of such construction that the hands cannot be injured during the nut cracking operation.
I attainthe above ob]ects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter spec-ifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the nut cracking device, partly broken away, Fig. 2.
is a vertical sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the nut cracking device, showing the invertible base of the device. I The reference numeral 1 denotes a base ring'or band and trunnioned in this ring or band is an invertible base or bottom plate 2 having the flat sides thereof provided with recesses 3. The invertible base-or bottom plate is held by pins 4 screwed in the side walls of the base or bottom plate, said pins being pivotally mounted in' the ring or band 1, as best shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
The base ring or band 1 is provided with oppositely disposed vertical arms 5, said arms having the upper ends thereof bent in wardly to form an arch over the invertible base 2. The upper ends of the arms 5 support avertical cylinder 6 having the lower end provided with an opening 7 andthe .up per end thereof open with the walls thereof interiorly screwtl readed Screwed the upper end of the cylinder is a cap 9 having a central vertical .opening 10 alining with the opening 7 in the lower end of the cylinder. i I
Movably mounted in the openings 7 and 10 is a plunger or push rod 11 having the the lower end of the cylinder 6 is a coiled spring 15." v
Mounted upon the lower threaded end of the plunger or push rod 11 is a cracking head 16 having the lower end thereofprovided with a recess 17 adapted to confront one of the recesses 3 of the base or bottom plate 3. Loosely mounted upon the upper end of the cracking head 16 is a bell-shaped hood or dome 18 having the lower end thereof open and the upper end provided with an opening 19 for the plunger orpush rod 11. The hood 18 is of a greater depth than the cracking head 16, whereby when the plunger or push rod 11 is lowered, the lower edges of the hood 18 will rest upon the in vertible base or bottom plate 2, prior to the cracking head 16 engagingthe nut placed in the recess 3 of the invertible base or bot tom plate 2.
To crack nuts placed upon the base or bottomplate 2, it is only necessary to strike the knob or handle 3 a blow, when the cracking head 16 will be lowered to crack or crush the shell of the nut. The hoodprcvents pieces of shells from being projected from the device, consequently particles of ..vided with recesses, an arch c rried by said band, a cylinder supported by the top of said arch, a spring supported plunger arranged in said cylinder, a knob carried'by the upper end of said plunger, a cracking head carried by the lower end thereof and having a recess confronting the invertible base, andadome-sl1aped hood loosely mount- .ed upon the upper end of said cracking head and adapted to engage said invertible base in. advance of said cracking head engaging 10 a nut.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
STANISLAW FLIS.
