COMBINED FOLDING IRONING-BOARD AND STEP LADDER.
Specification of Letters latent.
PatentedNov. 5, 1912.
Application filed Deee'moer 3 1910. Serial No. 595,374.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE B. SANnEnsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented new'and useful Improvements in Combined. Folding Ironing-Boards and Step-Ladders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ironing boards and more particularly to combined ironing boards and step ladders.
The object of the invention is the provision of an ironing board having a stepladder connected thereto in such amanner that it will act as an adjustable support for the ironing board and whereby the ironing board may be used as a supporting leg for the step ladder.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the position of the several parts in full lines when the board is adapted for aperson of moderate height, and in dotted lines when the board is raised for a tall person. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device showing the application of the same as a step ladder.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents the table which is provided at its rear end with recesses 2 in which are seated the pivotal ends of the step ladder legs 8. These ends are pivotally connected to the table by means of a bolt 4 which passes through the legs and .table. Mounted in each side of the legs 8 and pivotally arranged upon the bolt are supporting legs 5. The legs 3 are provided with the usual cross bars or steps 6 and have pivoted intermediate their ends the bracing arms 7 upon a bolt 8. These bracing arms are adapted to extend between the legs 8 and the board 1 and are adapted to engage a cross piece 9 secured to the underside of the board so as to hold the latter in spaced relation to'said board, and to prevent said arms from slipp1ng. A suitable cross bar 10 connects the separate arms 7 and is adapted to engage the legs 3 of the ladder when. thrown to, its
rearward position so as to limit the movementof the arms whereby they will hold the table elevated for a tall person.
Both the bolts 4: and 8 are provided with thumb nuts 11 so that the legs 5 and the arms 7 may be clamped upon the'legs 3. The upper ends of the legs 5 are provided with lateral extensions 12 which form shoulders 13 adapted to engage upon the upper side of the table 1 so as to limit their rearward movement and suitable braces 14: connect the legs so that they move in unison.
When the device is arranged for a step ladder the arms 7 are folded downwardly parallel With the legs 3 as are also the legs 5 and a suitable connecting hook 15 bridges between the legs and the table 1 and prevents spreading.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is- In combination,- a supporting member having a plurality of steps, a supplemental supporting member having. an ofiset upper end providing a stop and pivotally secured to said first member and having steps adapted to register with the steps of the first supporting member, an ironing board pivoted to said first supporting member at its upper end, a stop carried by the inner side of said ironing board, a brace hinged to the first supporting member and adapted to engage said stop and means for holding the ironing board and the first supporting member in spaced upright positions, said ironing board being adapted to engage the stop of said supplemental supporting member when placed in a horizontal position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE B. SANDERSON.
