To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MAX DREXLER, a subject of the German Emperor, and residing at Munich, Bavaria, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a toyattachment for suction-pipes, such as mouthpieces for cigars or cigarettes, tobacco-pipes, childrens suckers, and. the like, which is moved by the sucking action caused when the pipe is in use.

The toy may consist of an articulated doll, puppet, animal, or the like, which is held above or below an opening provided in the suction-pipe and whose movable parts are connected with a sliding-member or piston, in such manner that when the pipe is sucked through by application of the mouth, the

piston is drawn inward and causes motion of the parts of the toy with which it is connected.

One embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is an elevation, and Fig. 2 a sectional fragmental view, while Fig. 3 shows a detail to be hereinafter referred to.

The articulated puppet A. surmounts a small tube or cylinder 6, which accommodates a piston cZ connected. with the limbs e of the puppet by means of members 9, which may consist of filaments, strips, or the like. The piston cl is normally maintained at the top of the cylinder by means of a compression-spring f. The cylinder 0 is received by a socket-device b (Fig. 3) having a bent plate or flange a and a strap a} or a clip or the like fitting to the suctionpipe. The latter is here represented by the cigar-mouthpiece or holder B, and a hole It in the wall of the same constitutes a communication between the interior of the mouthpiece and the inside of the cylinder. The joint between the two parts is tightly closed by the flange a. When the toy is not in use the hole It may be closed in anysuitable WaV.

As already explained, the piston cl, under the influence of the helical spring f, is ordinarily held at the top of the cylinder 0 and the limbs e of the puppet A occupy the positions depicted in Fig. 1. In smoking, however, the suction occurring through the Specification of Letters Iatent.

mouthpiece B draws the piston cl inward against the action of the spring f and the limbs e of the figure A are consequently jerked outward. On cessation of the suction, the spring f will return the piston to its initial position and the limbs of the puppet will then be restored to their original positions also. Naturally the spring f can be dispensed with, if the puppet-limbs are of such weight that they drop by gravity into their normal position on the suction ceasing. During smoking the limbs of the toy-figure will thus be kept in a state of motion, that is to say, they will be constantly jerked up and down in a most amusing manner solely owing to the suction resulting from the cigar being smoked. The smoking operation itself is obviously in no wise interfered with.

Having thus described my invention, I declare that what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. In combination, a suction pipe, an articulated toy having a hollow part communicating with the interior of the pipe, means embracing the latter and connecting it with said hollow part, and a piston located within said hollow part and operatively connected with the movable parts of said toy.

2. In combination, a suction pipe, an articulated toy having a hollow part communicating with the interior of the pipe, means detachably holding the hollow part to said pipe and covering the joint between the two, and a piston located in the hollow part and connected with the movable parts ofsaid toy.

3. In combination, a suction-pipe, an articulated toy, a tubular member communicating with the interior of the pipe and havinga flanged attachment which fits over the latter and tightly closes the joint be- 5. A toy-attachment for suction pipes, comprising an articulated toy presenting a hollow, open-ended part and having a bent terminal flange adapted to embrace a suction pipe, and a piston located within said hollow part and connected with the movable parts of the toy.

6. A toy-attachment for suction pipes, comprising an articulated toy presenting a hollow part, an annular extension thereon adapted to embrace a suction pipe, and a piston operating within said hollow part and connected with the movable parts of the toy.
