Disposed below the metal plate 6` and spaced therefrom is an expansible. metal plate 16, which is much thinner than the plate G and much more sensitive to heat. rl'he metal plate 1G has its inner or central portion bent upwardly, as shown. Means are provided to -tixedly hold the outer portion of thisI cxpansible plate 16, comprising screws or-bolts 17 and 1S. The bolt 18 is provided with a nut 19, disposed in a pocket or opening 20. The screw 17 extends *upwardlj,Y through the body portion 1 and passes through a metal clamp 21, fitting in an opening 22. which is-formed in the body portion l. The metal clamp S21 has its outer end forked. as shown, and one tine thereof is provided with an opening' 22 for receiving a clamping screw 23, which engages a wire lt. is thus seen that the screws S and 17 serve the double purpose of holding respectively the plates G and 16 in place and electrically connecting them with the clamps 1l and 21.

' The rplate G is preferably provided centrally thereof with an opening for receiving a ccntact screw QS, having its lower engaging end preferably tapered or pointed,-as
shown. The serew'QS carries upon opposite sides of the plate G, locking nuts 29, to clamp the sci'rw in adjustment at'clitt'ere11t positions to the plate G. It is thus seen that by proper manipulation of the Contact screw QS -and nutsll, the distance between the pointed end of the screw `and the platev lll-may be varied, thus changing tthe'heat degree at vwhich plate llG'will engage said` screw.
The operation of ,the "device-is as fol- .lowmfVV-hen the plate 16 is subjected to heat, it tends to expandlongitudinally and having end portions held fast it will bend or lbuckle and malte contact-with the adjustable screw 28, to close the circuit. In this circuit current will flow through theWire 2.o from the source of current 25, bell 27,
Wire 15, clamp 11, screw 8, plate 6, contact screw 28, plate 16, screw 17, clamp 2l, and through the Wire 24 back to the source of current., As above stated the heat degree at which the device will operate may be regulated by proper manipulation of the adjustable contact screw 28.
It is to be understood that the form of lny invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example ol (he same and that certain changes in the sha-pc, size, and arrangement 'of parts may he resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subw joined claims.
Having thus described my invention, l claim 1. In a device of the character described, a body portion formed of insulating material and having a cavity formed therein rovided with a side Wall having shoul ers, spaced yI'netal plates disposedon said shoulmetal clamps extending into said body portion, screws connecting said metal plates and clamps, and a Contact element carried by one metal plat-e.
2. In a device of the character described, an integral body portion formed of insulating material and having' a central opening formed through one end leading into a main cavity, said cavity having its side Wall provided with shoulders, spaced metal plates disposed upon said shoulders, metal connecting' elements extending into tion, screws connect-ing the metal plates with the metal connecting elements, an adjustable contact screw carried by one metal plate and 'lisposed near the cent-ral opening to provide ready access to the same, and a circuit connected with said connecting elements.
