CASH-RECORDER.
y Specification oufiLetters Iaatent.
Application filed January 11, 1911.
Patented Nov. 5, 1912.
Serial N0. 602,130.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it' known that I, WHITFIELD HAINER, of -the .city of Toronto, in the county' of York and Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cash-Recorders and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,
and exact description of the Same.
'In my concurrent application Serial Number 533,061, I` have shown and described an autographic register which produces manifold copiesfof' the record of each transaction, one or more copies of the recorded matter being retained within a locked record chamber for reference and checking purposes,
' and in the same applicat-ion I rhave shown and describeda tally sheet upon which a record of each cash transaction is entered, the material'of the tally sheet being advanced step by step by the operation ot' the drawer opening mechanism.
In my present invention I have provided the drawer opening mechanism with a locking device which prevents the opening of the cash drawer untll the cash record opening for the tally sheet has been manually uncovered, the uncovering of the cash record opening operating as a reminder to enter the amount of the cash transaction on the tally sheet. I
For an understanding ot' the invention vreference is to be had' to the following description and to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1, is a perspective view of an `au'tographic register partly in section showing the cash recorder means. Fig. 2, is a longitudinal section 0n the line a-a Fig. l.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts throughout the specification and drawings.
J ournaled within the magazine chamber b is a vtally roll La from which the material passes across a cash record opening a 'in the top a to be wound on the web ai' within the storage chamber c. The spindle y for the web m is provided with a ratchet wheel w engaged by a gravity detent dog o and operating. vertically through the record chamber c is a plunger n having at its outer end a knob 1f and engaging at its inner end with one arm of a pivoted latch s". The other arm Iof lthe latch e has a tooth y-r engaging with a keeper r/ attached to the springpr ed cash drawer p', which automatically opens under the-influence ot' the spring o when the latch is disengaged from t-he keeper, the latch being provided with a striker m for the signal or alarm bell l. The plunger u is provided with a spring pressed dog a which engages -with the teeth of the ratchet wheel fw as the plunger descends to partly rotate the spindle y and web ai and which clears the ratchetteeth as the plunger ascends.
The cash record opening e" is provided with a movable covering plate connected bye link .24'with the arm 25ct' the pivoted dog e6.' The arm .e7 of thefpivoted dog is normally in the path of a locking pin fixed on the plunger u', and is movabl)v held in that positionby a spring e to prevent t-he descent of the plunger until the covering plate 2' is displaced from the cash rccord opening z. The cover .e3 moves lengthwise of the register top for a limited distance to respectively coverland uncover the cash record opening z, and it is during such lengthwise movement that the cover operates the pivoted dog z to respectively vengage and release the plunger u. Before -tlre locking pin .es for the descent of the The covering `plate and pivoted plunger. dog when released, return. instantaneously to their normal posit-ions over the cash reeord opening .2 and into the path ot the locking pin es, respectively. The ascelit of the plunger brings the locking pin into engagement with the pivoted dog which it temporarily displaces to drop back again to its normal position when the locking pin passes it. In this way I am able to preventthe operation of the plunger until the covering plate is removed from the cash record openino.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure b v Letters Patent. is:
` 1. In a cash recorder having a record opening therein, a drawer releasing means,
and a movable control therefor normally.
und. movabe @enh-ol nemally covering the eeord @neming and. engaging with the" We? eeasng means i@ pevent its operann, sa cenre when move to uncover the fecalopening `aemg disengaged from "the fewer eeesng means to permit Uf s enemtion.

Signed in the Ipresence o-T- Q Cms. H. RICHES, H. L. Tmmsnn.
