The purpose of the slides is to selectand combine the 'arious unitsI of movement, while the operating force itself, is intro. duced through the lever above referred to which operates the sliding frames. The various devices for selecting` the slifles,'locki1ig them, causing the devices to be interlocked, which are selected; and producing the operating;r force and transmittingr it to the` tambour frame all operate in regular sequence. The time actually consumed during' each completejacquard operation, in the actual moving of the tambour frame therefore is but. a part of the time, consumed in the complete operatiorn from the movement of the jacquard card to the `i'n'ovem'eut of the tambour frame.
