To all /u-wm it may concern Be it known that I, Moses citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia' and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk-Bottle Locks, of which the following is a specification.
Myinvention relates to improvements in milk bottle locks, the. object of the invention being to provide a device of t-his kind which is adapted to be secured to the frame of a door, and whichenables the milkman to readily position the bottle` in the device, but which will prevent any removal of the bottle except. by turning the same inwardly toward the door, such movement being prevented by the door when in closed position, hence only the occupant of the house can release the bottle by rst opening the door.
A further objectis to provide a device of this. character which is of extremely simple inexpensive construct-ion, strong and durable 1n use..
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention lconsists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

My improved bottle lock is secured to the door frame, and comprises a base plate 3 of general circular form having screw-receiving perforated extensions l to secure the device to t-he frame. Fig. 4, is a View in elevation of` and a pivoted arm 11, both curved adapted vto lit snugly around the neck of an ordinary milk bottle 12a. Thearm 10 is preferably integral with casing 8, but may of course be fixed thereto in other ways.
Arm l1 projects through a slot 12 in the casing 8, and at its inner end is made with integral trunnions 13 pivot-ally supported in bearing brackets 14,1the latter integral with casing 8 and located at opposite sides ot' the slot 12. This pivoted arm v1l is provided with a shoulder l5 which is adapted to ride'over the outer faceof a concentric curved flange 1G integral with base plate 3, and having beveledv or inclined ends 17.
This iiange 16 limits the pivotal movement of the arm l1 suiiiciently toprevent the milk bottle from being released,'but when the casing 8 is turned,.so that the shoulder 15 1s in any other position, arm v11 may-beswung backwardly to allow the bottle to be released or inserted. On the inner face of casing 8, integral brackets 18 are provided and constitute bearings for vthe integral journal 19 of a vpawlA 20. This pawl 20has a tooth 21 which is adapted to project through an opening 22 in base plate 3, and prevent the rotation ofi the casing in one direction as will now be When the lock is empty, revolved so that when the mllkman arrives with the bottle of milk, he may turn the casing 8 and move the pivoted jaw 11 so as to readily position the bottle neck between the jaws l0 and 1l. He then turns the bottle downwardly to an upright position. This movement of the casing brings the lock to the position shown in Figs. 2 'and 5, but in this position the arm 11 is held against pivotal movement by the flange 16 and the shoulder 21 of pawl 20, projects into the opening 22, and prevents any turning movement of the casing in a direction to swing the bottle outwardly. The bottle can, however, be swung inwardly, but not far enough to move the shoulder 15 of 0I" Harige 16, because the door 1 when in closed position will prevent this movement. The bottle is therefore securely locked until the door 1 is'swung out oit' the way, when the bottle may be swung inwardly and upwardly, mov: ing` the shoulder 15 oil of fiange 16 and allowing the arm 11 to fall vand release the bottle. It will therefore be noted, that while my improvements permit rotary I.wernent it may be readily and in one direction, this rotary movement is prevented by the bottle engaging the door when the door isclosed. lt 1s therefore sim ply necessary' to open the door to release the bottle, and the bottle can be released in no other Way.
