Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES E. lVEATI-I- ERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sacramento, in the county of Sacramento, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beer- Faucets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.

This invention relates to improvements in faucets and particularly to those used for drawing beer, ale, porter and other liquids of any kind or nature.

The object of the invention is to produce a faucet from which two or more different and distinct liquids may be drawn from two or more separate and distinct receptacles, or from which two difierent liquids may be drawn simultaneously.

A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be excedingly effective for the purposes for which it is designed.

These objects, I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear, by a perusal of the following specification and claim.

In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

Figure 1 is a top plan view of the com plete device. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on a line XX of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on a line Y-Y of Fig. 1. Fig. 4. is a sectional View taken on a line ZZ of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a side view, partly in section of a valve plug. Fig. 6 is a front elevation of a portion of the clamp.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, I first provide a casting which is provided with three internal pipes 2, 3 and 1, which pipes diverge from each other at their outer ends as shown in Fig. 1 and open into a valve casing 5 at different points with relation to each other. These pipes enter the casing 5 in the same horizontal plane and hence to do this the pipe 2 will have to turn downwardly at its outer end.

The numeral 6 designates a tapered plug turnably disposed in the casing 5 and having a transverse port 7 adapted to be brought into register with either of the pipes 2, 3 and 1 as said plug 6 is turned. This port 7 communicates with a vertical port 8 in the center of the plug 6 which communicates at all times with a draw off nipple 9 leading from the casing 5. Projecting upwardly from the plug 6 is a round stem 10 having a square upper end 11.

The numeral 16 designates an operating handle mounted over the square portion 11 and is held in position thereon by screw 17 which screws into the end 11 of the stem, there being a washer 18 interposed between the head of the screw 17 and the handle 16.

As will be noted by the turning of the handle 16 the plug 6 will be turned to bring the port 7 into register with any one of the pipes 2, 3 and 4t and in as much as said pipes will be connected at their inner ends to different liquid receptacles one faucet can be used for the draw-off of various kinds of liquids as previously set forth in the preamble to this specification. The cup 12 screwing down against the washer 14 makes a tight joint and by means of the said screw 15 the tightness with which the plug 6 fits in the casing 5 can be fixed and determined and it also permits of the wear to be taken up should the plug 6 wear from continual use.

The numeral 19 designates a collar disposed around the pipe 1 and adapted to abut against a wall or other partition and the numeral 20 designates another collar made in halves as shown and having projecting flanges 21. This collar 20 is abutted against the other side of the wall opposite the collar 19 and bolts 22 are then projected through the flanges 21 and bolted therein to clamp said collar 20 in fixed position on the pipe 1 to hold said pipe in whatever position it is disposed in in said wall or other partition.

Fig. 5 shows the plug 6 showing the exact structure of the passage way therein.

From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfils the objects of the invention as set forth herein.

While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such construction may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a device of the character described a casting comprising three pipes, said pipes diverging at their outer and inner ends and being provided with a casing at their outer ends into which they open at different points, a tapered plug mounted in said casing and provided with a transverse port adapted to be brought into register with any one of the said pipes as said plug is turned, said plug being provided with a central vertical port communicating with said transverse port, a nipple leading from said casing and communicating with said vertical port, an

upwardly projecting stem on said plug, a cap mounted around said stem and screwed onto said casing,a washer interposed between said cap and said plug, a threaded sleeve disposed around said stem and adapted to screw through said cap and impinge against said washer and a handle member disposed on the upper end of said stem, as described.
