This invention has for its. object the production of a simple instrument for puncturing the small ends of cigars, for the purpose of providing -thc necessary means of draught, and consists of arcylindricai case or cup, having a central opening, and provided with spring puncturing pins,` which are operated by means of studs projecting through its edge.
The details of construction will be fully described hereinafter'.
In,l the drawing- `Figure l represents a p unch complete, and
Figure 2, a`view of the-samevwith the cover removed to show the interiormechanism.
To enable others skilled 'in the art to make and use my invention, l will now proceed to describe fully its construction and manner of operation;
A represents a cup or able rim` or edge, and the central circular orifice a.
B represents a disk, wit-l1 a similar opening, which is used to cover and protect the operating mechanism with in the disk A;
c crepresent curved plates, which are provided upon their inner faces with the puncturing pins c1 c1, and upon their outer faces with the studs c2 c2, which lattcr project througlitheedge of disk A, asshown.
plan view of my improved oase, provided with a snit- The plates c are each also provided with an orifice through which passes the guide-rod d.
e represents a spring, consisting of a fiat metallic strip, having its ends suitably att-ached to the plates c c, as shown.
VThe operation is as follows:
The small end of' the cigar is thrust into the oponing of the cup upon either side, and the studs o2 o are.
pressed on by the fingers. The movement of the stud causes the pins o ol to be thrust into the cigar,I and the necessary openings are thus made.
- As soon as the pressure applied to the studs is removed, the pins are instantly withdrawn bythe action .of the spring e.
cylindrical case or cup, provided with spring puncturinglpins, operated by means of' studs, as described.
2. The speciiic device described, consisting of tHe cup A, disk B, plates c, pins c, studs o2,guide-rod d, and spring c, when thevparts'are combined and arranged as described, for the purpose set forth.
This specification signed and witnessed this 19th day of April, A. D. 1870.
