DOOR-LATCH.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM PETERSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lyons, in the county of Clinton and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Latches, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a barn door latch which can be withdrawn flush with the edge of the door when the door is open.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a face representation of the door closed. Fig. 2 shows the door open. Fig. 3 is a section on line a a, Fig. 1.. Fig. 4 is a section on line 7) b Fig. 2.
The door 1 in this instance is supported by rollers mounted on a track, and when closed will rest against the jamb 2. To the door is secured a housing 5 having a raised center 6. The raised center is formed with two slots 7 and 8. The slot 8 is formed with end enlargements 9. A latch 10 is located in the raised portion of the housing and has one end 11 pointed and formed with side notches 12. To the latch is secured a hand hold 13 which extends through the slots 7 and 8. To the jamb 2 is secured a catch 14.
Fig. 1 shows the latch in engagementwith the catch 14 which will hold the door closed.
In opening the door, the latch is raised free of the catch and moved within the housing so that the end of the latch will be within the housing and one end of the hand hold will strike against the end of the slot 7 and the other end of the hand hold will rest in one of the enlargements 9. The door may then be fully opened and the edge of the door will be free of the projections extending beyond its edge.
In closing the door, one end of the hand hold will rest in one of the enlargements 9 thereby forming a connection between the latch and the housing, and by means of the hand hold the door may be closed.

the slot 8 and the two notches 12 in the latch, the housing and latch may be turned over and used in connection with a door opening at the right hand.
An opening 15 is formed in the door, and a loop 16 has a connection with the latch, and by means of which the latch may be manipulated from the inside of the door.
I claim as my invention.
1. A door fastening, comprising a housing having spaced longitudinal slots, a transversely and longitudinally movable latch operating in the housing and having an. end that can be projected from or withdrawn within said housing, and a handle loop having its ends passing through and operating in the different slots, said loop constituting means for limiting the movement of the latch with respect to the housing.
2. A door fastening, comprisinga housing having spaced longitudinal slots, a transversely and longitudinally movable latch operating in the housing and having an end that can be projected from or with drawn within said housing, and a handle loop having its ends passing through and operating in different slots, both ends of said loop engaging the ends of the slots for limiting the movement of the latch longitudinally in the housing.
3. A door fastening, comprising a housing having an opening in one side provided with a transversely disposed enlargement, of a reciprocatory and transversely movable latch operating in the housing and having an end that can be projected therefrom or withdrawn therein, and an operating handle connected to the latch and moving in the opening, said handle being movable to a position in the lateral enlargement to hold the latch in a predetermined position.

A door fastening, comprising a housing having spaced longitudinally disposed slots, one of said slots having an opposite transverse enlargement, a reciprocatory and laterally movable latch having a double hooked end that can be projected from the housing or withdrawn therein, and a handle loop my hand in presence of two subscribing Withaving its ends passing through the slots nesses.
