To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, JOHN H. BOLTON, a
citizen of the United, States of America, re-
siding at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following 1s a'specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to toys.and the principal object of the same is to providea toy iii-which a. figure is suspended above'aresilient strip so that when the strip is vi.- brated the strip .will strike the figure and cause it to go -through the operation of dancing a jig.
It will, of course, be understood that the invention is susceptible to minor changes in details of construction such as come within the scope of the appended claims one preferred and practical embodiment of the invention being shown in the accompanying drawings wherein there is disclosed a pers'pective view of the toy forming the subject matter of this invention.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein 'Figure 1 is a perspective view showing one form'of this invention. Fig. 2 is a per spective view of another form ofthe invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, it will be seen that the toy comprises a tapered block 1 which has a resilient strip 2 secured adjacent its thicker end by means of screws 3 or by any. other desired means, and which extends longitudinally of the block 1 and extends past the narrower end of the block and is positioned in spaced relation thereto. Standards 4 and- 5 are mounted in the upper face of theblock 1 adjacent its inner end and each is provided'with an eye to form journals for an operation means;

It should be noted that the bar 29 fits close to the figure so that the end of the wire, which is bent as shown in Fig. 2,'will fit snugly in place, and be tightly clamped so that the body portion of the figure cannot move while the figure is being operated. A platform 30is provided with cut-out portions 31 at a point to the rear of its center point and pivot pins 32 are secured in the cut-out portions 31. The pivot pins pass through the eyes 33 so that the platform will be pivotally mounted. The platform is pivotally mounted to the rear of its center so that it will normally tip forwardly, thus causing the board to return to a tipped position when pressure is removed from the rear portion.
In operating the device shown in Fig. 2,
the parts are assembledas shown and the resilient wire 22 bent so that the feet of the figure will just escape the forward end portion of the platform when the platform is in a normal position. The fingers are placed upon the rear portion of the platform and by keeping'time to any tune desired, the forward end of the platform will be moved up and down in time to the music and the figure caused to go through the operation of dancing a jig by the' forward end -of the platform striking the feet as it is moved upwardly. It will be seen that in the form shown in'Fig. 2, the figure may be caused not only to dance a jig,but to keep time to any tune desired. It will also be noted that the figure'supporting wire may be disconnected so thattheparts of the device may be 'packed in a small package.

A toy of thecharacter described comprisin a base board, a socket secured to one end of said base board, pivot eyes carried by said base board adjacent one end, a vibrating board provided .With cut out portions adjacent one end, pins passing through the pivot eyes and-into the out out portions of the vibrating board to pivotally connect the vibrating board with the base board, a jointed figure, pins carried by said figure, a
bar connecting 'said pins, and a resilient strip lnserted in said socket and curved over said vibrating board and having its free end bent at an angle and carried over one of said pins between said bar and figure and beneath the remaining pinto removably securesaid figureto said resilient strip.
2; A device of the character described comprising a base board, a vibrating board carried by said baseboard, a resilient supporting strip carried by said base board and overhanging said vibrating board, a figure, pins carried by said figure, and a bar connecting said pins, the end of said strip being passed over one of said pins, between said figure and bar and under the remaining-one of said pins to connect said figure with said supporting strip.
