Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. HARRIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lalenan, in the county of Shelby and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Stovepipe- Joints, of which the following is a specificaticn.
This invention relates to improvements in pipes, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a pair of coacting pipe sections with means whereby one may be longitudinally adjusted upon the other and sustained in said adjusted position.
lVith the above object in view and others, which will appear as the nature of theinvention progresses, the improvement resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings accompanying this specification, Figure l is a front elevation of a pair of pipe sections constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sect-ion with same taken upon line 2-2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a similar sectional view taken upon the line 3 3 of Fig. l.
The improvement is primarily designed for employment with the sections of a stove pipe, but is of course, susceptible for use in connection with other pipes.
In the drawings the numeral 1 designates one of the pipe sections and 2 the second pipe section which is telescoped within the section l. Both of the sections l and 2 have their meeting ends crimped to provide locking devices for the sheets of material forming the said sect-ions l and 2. The crimp 3 of the outer section 1 is positioned a slight distance away from the crimp 4 of the inner section 2 and the section 1 adjacent its crimp 3 is provided with a longi tudinally extending cut away portion 5. The side walls or edges provided by the said cut away portion 5 have depressions 6, the same being arranged in staggered relation Specicaton of Letters Patent.

From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be noted that the improvement contemplates the positioning of the crimps of the pipe members, one slightly away from the other, so that a slight space is left between the said crimps, and between these spaces is arranged the cutaway portion as well as the pin 7. The remainder of the pipe sections, through the medium of the said orimps are effectively sustained tightly one upon the other and it is believed that the simplicity of the device, the advantages thereof, as well as the cheapness of the same, will be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art to which such inventions appertain.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is:
A device of the character described comprising a pair of telescoping pipe sections, the outer section being formed with a longitudinally extending slot by means of an open sided longitudinal recess in one edge of said section and the opposite edge of the underlapping section spaced therefrom, each of said edges being formed with notches in staggered relation to each other and, a pin carried by the inner section and adapted to move longitudinally in said slot and engage one of said notches.
