Specication of Letters Patent.
To all who-m 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUsTAvn H. CoQnEUG- NIOT, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Copyino' Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a duplicating apparatus, and particularly to a photographic copying machine for making true copies of papers, `pictures and the like, directly on Paperv One of the objects of this invention is to provide an apparatus in which the paper is exposed, developed and fixed, in consecutive operations, without Anecessitating manual handling of the paper.
Another obj ect of this invention is to provide an apparatus in which the paper after development is automatically removed from the developing cylinder and delivered facel z part of said casing 1, and in ana-xial line down to the fixing bath.

casing, in the upper part of which is jourp naled a flanged roller 2, for a roll of sensitizedpaper 3, arranged to be fed to the exposure chamber 4, of said casing, provided with photographic bellows 5, and lens 6, by rollers 7. In said exposure chamber 4,
are two spaced plates 8, and 9, .the former being an ordinary transparent glass plate, While the latter vis a ground glass plate on which the focus of the object from the lens .is made. These plates 8, and 9, serve also l to guide the paper through the opening 1 0,
in Said yexposure chamber 4, and to bring-the end 11, of t-hepaper in proper position for Yclamping and developing, by means presently described, after the same has been sheared off, by a preferably rotary knife 12, disposed on the top of said casing 1, and below said feeding rollers 7 In the lower tegral with said casing, and having its other end extending through a sleeve 16, which is journaled in a bearing 17, integral with said casing. Said cylinder 13, is provided with a longitudinal groove 18, in which is disposed an oscillable bar 19, mounted in plates 20 and 21, secured to the ends of said cylinder. Said bar is provided with lugs 22, which, when the bar 19, is oscillated, clamp the end of the paper against the wall 23, of said longitudinal groove 18, and hold said paper clamped during the revolution by a crank 24, pinned on said shaft 14, of said cylinder, in a developing solution in a tray 25, supported in proper relation to said cylinder. The said wall 23, of the groove 18, is provided with projections 26, forming supports for the end of the paper, to prevent it from sliding under the cla-nip bar 19. On one end of said clamp bar' 19, is fixed an arin 27, clearly shown in Fig. 4, provided with a pin 2S, disposed in a cam slot 29, of a disk 30, which is integral with said sleeve 16. Connected with said sleeve 16, which is i loosely mounted on said shaft 14, and located `011 the outside of said casing 1, i-s a knurled nut 31, by means of which the sleeve 16, and

Th' disk 30 and cylinder 13, are now connected, and the crank operated to revolve the cylinder, with the paper thereon in the developing solution in the tray 25.
When the cylinder has been revolved 'for a sufficient length of timetodevelop the paper, the clamp bar`19, is operated to release thev endv of they paper, whichvis then delivered face down to the fixing solution in the tray 32, fitting in the bottom of said casing. rlhis is accomplished bythe following mechanism: Loosely mounted in a rabbet of said bearing 17, is, a disk 33, providedl in thevpe- 'riphery' thereof with a segmental notch34,
`one wall 35, of which is curved, and the other of which is inclined, as seen at 36, for
purposes to appear more fully hereinafter. 0n the side of said disk '33, is`an abutment 37 arranged in a direct line with a stud 38, project-ing through a cam slotv 39, in said aforenamed disk 30. This. -stud is secured to the end of an arm 40, pivotally mounted jon the side of. said cylinder 13. F ulcrumed in said casing by a pin 41, is a lever 42, whose upper end is provided with a roller 43, arranged to slide over the periphery of said disk 33, and out of said notch 34, and whose lower end is furnished with an elongated slot 44, in which the pin 45, of a link 46, keyed on a rod 47, is arranged to operate. @n said rod are a plurality of niigers'48, for vremoving the developed paper from said cylinder and delivering it tothe fixing bath in the following manner.
`When the disk 30, is oscillate'ol by the nut 31, in the direction of the arrow, Fig. 4, the cam slot 29, in the disk 30, causes t-he clamp bar 19, to oscillate, and clamp the end of the 4' paper, as shown in Fig. 5. Simultaneouslythepin 38, prjecting through the cam slot 39, is thrown outto a greater radius than. that in which the abutment 37 on the dlsky 33, lies, and consequently passes over the said der 13, in the directionof the arrow, Fig.

a cylinder journaled in said casing and provided with a longitudinal groove, a bar in said groove to clamp the end of said paper, means to operate said bar,.means to remove the paper from said cylinder, a disk to operate said removing means, means to operate said disk, and means to control both said bar and said disk operating means.

In a photographic copying apparatus, the combination with a casing having in the upper part thereof a roll of sensitized paper, of a developing cylinder for an exposed piece of paper, provided with a longitudinal groove, a bar 1n said. groove to clamp the end of said paper, means to operate said bar, a shaft on which said cylinder is mounted, means to remove the paper from said cylinder, a disk Yto control said removing means, means to operate said disk, a sleeve loose on said shaft and provided with a disk to operate said clamp bar and said disk operating means, and means to move said sleevexindependently of said shaft.

The combination with a casing having a roll of sensitized paper in the upper part thereof, of a developing cylinder, having a longitudinal groove, a shaft on which said cylinder is mounted, a crank to revolve said cylinder, a sleeve loosely mounted on said shaft and forming a bearing for one end thereof, a cam disk on said sleeve, an 4auto` matic paper removing means in operative relation to said cylinder, a disk loosely mounted relatively to said sleeve to control said removing means, a paper clamping .means A in said groove, means operatively connected with said cam disk to operate said clamping means, means operatively connected with `said cam disk-toactuate said disk for controlling said removing means, and means to actuate said sleeve independently of said shaft.
