To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, GEORGE IV. THERIE and OLIVER R. ZoLL, citizens of the United States, residing at St. Anne, in the county of Kankakee and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Display, Measuring, and Cutting Devices, of which the following is a specification. v

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same, Figure 1 is a side view of the apparatus complete, Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, Fig. 3 is an en larged side view of the reel and cutting mechanism, parts thereof being broken away, and, Fig. 4 is a similar view of the reel, parts being shown in section.

In the drawings wherein for the sake of illustration, we have shown a preferred embodiment of our invention, the numeral 1 designates end pieces or standards of a display rack, connected by horizontal bars 2. The end pieces 1 include vertical bars 3, provided with sockets, for rotatably holding shafts 4: and 5. The shaft 1 supports a roll of measuring tape 1, while the shaft 5 supports a roll of paper 6. The end pieces 1 carry holding or supporting brackets 7 connected with horizontal rods 8. These holding brackets receive the rolls of oil-cloth.

Rigidly attached to the end pieces 1 near their upper ends and upon corresponding sides, are spaced bars 9, each pair of which is connected at the outer ends by a bar 10. Upon the bars 10 are rigidly mounted bearings 11 and 12, the bearing 11 having a central opening 13 and the bearing 12 being provided with a socket 14. J ournaled within the opening 13 is a crank-shaft 15, carrying at its outer end a crank 16, which is provided with a handle 17. At its inner end the crank-shaft- 15 has rigid connection with a disk 18, provided with a suitable number of her of pins 20, which are rigidly mounted upon a: co-acting disk 21. The disk 21 is rigs idly'connec ted with one'end of a reel 22, the opposite end of which is adapted to be removably journaled within the socket 14;. Means are provided to detachably connect the oilcloth to the reel 22, such means being in the form of a longitudinally movable clamping rod 23,l1aving one end thereof reduced, as shownat 24, to fitxwithin a sleeve 25, which is attached to the reel 22 adjacent the disk 20, by means of a pin 26. The clamping rod is also provided at this end with an inwardly extending hook 28, adapted for insertion within a longitudinal recess 29 and to be moved into an under-cut opening 30 of such recess.

Disposed below the reel 22 is cutting mechanism, comprising a horizontal, track 31, having a longitudinal slot 32, within which is disposed to operate a movable blade 33. This blade is properly held in the track by guide elements 3 1, suitably attached to the inner end thereof. A handle 35 is attached to the outer end of the blade.

In the use of the device, the selected roll of oil-cloth is placed in the holding brackets 7 below and adjacent the reel 22. The clamping rod 23 is now removed by a longitudinal movement and after the free end of the roll of oil-cloth is placed upon the reel 22, such clamping rod is returned to its normal position, to securely detachably connect the oil-cloth with the reel. In a similar manner the free endof the tape 1 is secured to the reel. The reel is now turned and after a desired amount of the oil-cloth has been wound thereon, is stopped, subsequently to which the blade 33 is moved longitudinally to cut the oil-clot-h. The paper 6 has its free end connected with the oil-cloth which is wound on the reel, whereby upon further'turning of the reel such oilcloth will be properly wrapped by the paper. The roll is now tied and is next removed. This is accomplished by that end of the reel 22 which fits in the socket 1 1 being removed from such socket, subsequently to which the disks 18 and 21 may be separated. Attention is called to the fact that the crank-shaft and disk 18 are capable of restricted longiopenings 19, to receive a corresponding numwhich renders the separation of the two disks easy. The operator next takes hold of the hook 27, and thus moves the clamping rod 23 longitudinally out of the roll of oilcloth which has been wound on the reel 22. The reel may now be removed.
