A citizen of the United States, residing at Fall River, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hand-Threading Shuttles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention pertains to certain new land useful improvements'in hand thread- 'ing shuttles, and the object of the invention is to provide an improved shuttle construction which Ywillpermit of the threading thereof with ease, and in a and at the same time to provi e an effective means for preventing disengagement of the thread.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a shuttle constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a section' on the line 2--2 of Fig. 4. In accordance with the present invention the shuttle 1 is provided with a'bobbin cavity 2 and a .pointed slot 3 which connects the delivery eye 4 with the bobbin cavity 2. Across the slot at thev front end wall 5 of the bobbin cavity 2 is formed a shallow hole or depression 6. 7 denotes a pin which is provided at one -end wit-h a hook-pointed end8, which pin is driven into the hole or depression 6, so that the'hook-pointed end lies or extends across the slot 3 in a manner clearly depicted in Fig. 2 of the drawings. In the forward end of the bobbin cavity an eye 9 is placed, which eye connects with the slot 3, and by virtue of the latter, with the' uick manner,

The outer side of the shuttle is formed with a. cut-out portion 14, and the 'outerend of the pin 13 has a Hattened end 15, one' edge 16 of which is straight and the other edge 17 of which is curved. The Hattened end 16 of the pin 13 extends across the slot 10 of the delivery eye 4, but is out of contact with the .same as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, while the pin itself by reason of its passing throu h the perforation in the web 11 of the fric ion member serves to frictionally lock the latter in position.
In operation the thread is drawn from the bobbin through the space between the inner curved ends of the wings 12 of the friction member and through the slot 3, and since the point 8 of the pin 7 is out of contact with the wall formed bythe depression 6, and the latter is at a slight angle to the horizontal, the-thread passes down through the eye 9 and through the slot 10 into the delivery eye. As the flattened end 15 extends across the slot 10 in the delivery eye but out of contact therewith, the thread will pass by the end 15 in entering the delivery eye, but will be prevented from comin out by reason of the curved edge 17 ot the end 15. c
H aving thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In combination 4with -a shuttle having a slot leading from the bobbin cavit to the slotted delivery eye, a horizontally isposed pin extending transversely across the Shuttle and having an end thereof turned downwardly and iattened to provide a plate-like member which has its free end pointed and extendli 1g across the slot of the 'delivery eye so that the thread lin threading of the shuttle will first engage the side of said platelike member adjacent to said shuttle slot then pass under said pointed end thereof and iinally ride-up on the opposite side of said member.
2. In a shuttle,l a friction member therefor consisting of a base plate and a pair of Wings thereon and opposite ends of the plate, said Wings being spaced apart.
