residing in Bridgeport, in the county of 'Fairfield, in the State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful, Improvements .in Electrical Rosettes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of myinvention is to so constrlict an electrical rosette as to relieve from the strain of the'weight of the suspended lamp. or the like, the connection between the bared. 'ends of the wires and the binding screws or other means for securing them to the terminal plates in the rosette. object I attain in the manner-which I will now describe.

In Fig. ,1, B is the base, which may be of any suitable construction, but preferably of porcelain. C is the cap, which is also preferably of porcelain and is detachably secured to the cap by any well known or suitable means, such the notched plates a, a Figs. 2 and 8, to take over screws on the base in the well known way. In the fuseless rosette shown in Fig. 4, I have indicated spring latches a on the terminal plates A of the cap to engage suitable hooks or plates on the base. In the construction shown in Figs. '1, 2 and 3, the terminal plates A, A to which the ends of the suspension cords are to be connected by binding screws 5, 5, are secured to the cap separate from the attaching plates a, a but electrically connected to the latter by fuse wires f, f.
The cords D, .D which pass through the usual central hole 0 in the cap, have their bared ends secured to the terminal plates A, A or A A by suitable binding screws 5, 5. Between these terminal plates and the central aperture I form on the inner face of the cap abutments or vertical studs,
. around which the covered portions of the wires may be bent or coiled to take the strain of the Weight of the suspended lamp and cords from the connection of the cords with the terminal plates. I have shown such abutments at E, of such a character as Specification of Letters Patent.

to impartto each wire at least a complete U-shaped bendin passing from the terminal plate -to the outlet hole. I prefer to provide an abutment E (or E ig. 4) so as to make the bend in each wire a U-shape in two directions, reversed, or in other words, an'S-shape, as shown} These 'abutments are alsopreferably so formed with relation to each other and adjacent parts of the cap as to produce grooves of a Width not more than the diameter of the covered wires, so as to add the frictional contact of the wires withthe walls of the 'grooves to the frictional hold of the bent but covered portions of the wires with the corners of the abutments. The abutments are formed in the porcelain in the molding operation and the grooves are open so that the wires can be readily laid Within and around the abutments, either after or before connecting up their bared ends to the terminal A A These abutments must be of such plates A, A or size and bear such relation to. the terminal plates that the corners of the abutments will be engaged by the covered or insulated portions of the wires and not by the bared wires. Otherwise there would breaking of the wire strands.
I- claim as myinvention-- 1. An electrical rosette, having a cap carrying terminals and having a central aperbe liability of 'ture with two strain relieving abntments coiled around said studs and connected to said wire terminals.
4. .In an article of the character described, the combination, with a body portion provided with a central opening, two wire ter- 7 minals and two vertical studs, of an electric lamp-cord extending through said central opening and having its inner end'portion coiled around said studs anclconnected to .said Wire terminals, and means for holding the coils in position upon said studs. 1
5, In an article of the character described, the combination, with a body portioncoinprising a base and a removable cap portion, each providedwith a pail-of Wire terminals, and means for connecting the Wire terminals upon the base portion With the Wire terminal: upon the cap portion when said cap portion is secured to the base, of a een tral opening in said cap portion, two vertical studs formed upon said cap portion and an electric lamp-c0 d extending through said central opening and having its inner .end portion coil ed around said studs and connected to said wire terminals.
6. In an article of the character described, the combination, with a base portion. pro- 'ided with two Wire terminals, of a cap pornoeaevo a pair of fuse Wires extending from the Wire terminals in said cap portion through suit= able grooves formed in the body 01" said portion to a pair of contact plates adapted to engage and disengage the wire'termiiialsupon the; base portion.
