Be it known that I, LUDWIG NEUMAYER,
a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and
resident of Strassburg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vending-Machines.
This inventioni relates to improvements in vending machines.
The object of the invention is to provide a vending machine operated by two or more independent coins, one of which acts to operate device-s for venting the article or liquid to be-dispensed.

Located adjacent the disk 9 is a coin chute-1S which extends upwardly and forwardly toward'the front wall of the, casing as shown in Fig. 1. The chute 18 is formed with a branch 18"L to direct -a coin to one of the concave notches 9l in the disk 9. Cooperating with the upper portion of the coin chute 1S and adapted to lform a continuation thereof, is agate 1 pivoted at 1a and provided with a crank arm To the outer end of the crank arm 3S is pivoted a lever 7, theA lower end of which is pivoted to an arm 3G of a bell crank lever 35, mount-ed on a pivot 36. To the other arm 3T of the bell crank leverl is pivoted a link 32, connected by alink 3l with a counter 30.
Pivoted at 49 above the disk 9 is a` bell crank lever SX' one arm of which is'pivoted at 4S to the lever 7. The other arm 55 of said bell crank lever is in the form of a segment and is provided with a slot 50 and at its lower forward end is mounted a roller 4T, against which the periphery of the disk Fig. 2 is an end elevation,` par- 9-beais. In advance of the disk 9, is a latch lever 47 pivoted at 46 and formed with a cam surface 47 near its upper end and nearer its lower portion itis provided with I a roller which is located adjacent t-he periphery of fthe'disk 9. To the lower extended end of the lever 47 is'attacheda yspring 26, the opposite end of which is attached to the; lowerl end of a coin holding lever,12. The coin holding lever 12 is pivoted at 14 and projecting from its upper end `is a stud 13", w-hicheXtends through the slot in the crank lever 8^. `At a suitable point Asome distance above the-pivot 14, a pin 1G extends'from the. coin holding lever 12 and into the chute 18 below the bottom of the branch 1S:L also extending from the lever 12 at a. suitable point. below the pivot 14 is a pin 2'9 which extends into thc chute 18. rilhe pins 16 .and-29 lform supportsfor the coins during the operation ofthe machine as will be described later on. l
The lever 7 is formed with a slot 9.4 in which fits a Vpin '25 on the end of a lever 19 pivoted at 23. The rear en'd ofzlevcr Q3 is formed with a lateral portion having a threaded opening to receive a screw 20. Located in the path of movement of the end vof the screw 20 isa normally outwardly spring pressed valve stem 2S of a valve Q8 a pipe 41.
Adjacent the gate 1l is a hopper 2 which communicates'with a chute I3 leading to a cup 4. This arrangement is for the purpose lof returning a coin to a customer if perchance there be inserted a second coin in the machine before the mechanism had com pleted the operation started by the introduction of the previous coins. j
' Inoperation the gate 1 is normally in the position shown in full lines in F ig. 2,l thatv is to say the lever T is in its lowest position as shown in Fig. 1, and the gate is in registry with the chute 18. The shaft 10 is continually rotated so that when the coins are introduced, one will be caught in one of the notches 9EL to effect the operation of the mechanism. A coin is inserted in the o'pent ing communicating with the chute, and is held suspended by the pin 1G at the point indicated at Z in Fig. 1, then a second coin is introduced and when it Astrikes the first coin Z it willroll in the branch 18a of thc chute and into one of the `notches 91as indicated at e. As the disk 9 revolves in the di-I recton of the arrow b, coin c will contact with the roller l1 and rock the crank lever 8X in the direction of the arrow and through the pivotal connection 48, the. lever 7 will be raised.` When lever 7 is moved up, it rocks thev gate 1 to the dotted line posi 'tion shown in F ig. 2 so as to permit a coin if inserted after the parts have thus moved to fall into the hopper 2, and thence to the" pin 29 in` the path of the coinV consequently the latter is again supported in the chute.
'lVhen lever 7 is 'raised the pivot'pin 48 willl ride'over the camportion of the latch lever 47 and spring 26 will pull the upper endl of said lever under said pin and hold the parts in `this position and' will move the roller 4 5 in the lpath of'inoveinent of the coin c. The raising of lever 7 also rocks the lever 19 and causes the end of the screw 20 to force the' spring pressed valve stem down and open the valve and permit the liquid to pass' through the pipe 41. Upward movement of `lever 7 performs another Ifuncton in that through the connections 3,5-33 and 3l the inclined plate 34 is"ifo'cked in the direction. of the arrow 51 to deposit thepreviously introduced coins to the draw 54 and also to operate the counter 30. 4Now as the disk9 continues to revolve the coin c will contact with the roller 45 and rock lever 47 an'd thereby remove the upper endK from under the pivot 4S and permit crank lever S to assume its normal position, and through the spring 26 and the wall of the slot the coin holding lever willbe rocked on its pivot and returned to normal position, withdrawing the pin 29 from under the coin to permit the latter to drop and slide down on the plate 34where it willbe exposed `to l' notch aboutV the same time coin d falls from view through the glass panels. The parts are so timed that coin c will fall from its the pin 29,v l,During the -time the coin c is traveling from the roller 11 to roller 45 the liquid is flowing through the pipe 41, then when the lever 47 is released and is assuming its normal position the spring valve will gradually close the slot 24, permitting o-f this movement after lever 7 is lowered.
Obviously if it be desired to arrange the parts so that it will require theintroduction of three coins instead of two to operate the mechanism .the only changes necessary to make is tolocate the pin 16 at` the point indicatedat `15 in Fig. 1. Under these circuinstances the first coin indicated at al will be supported on a pin inserted at 15 and the/second coin indicated at d will be seats, a coin holding lever having a pin which extends into the coin chute to tem orarily support a coin so. that upon lthe 1n-A t-roducton of a subsequent cin it will strike the one previously introdiiced and will be directed to thebranch chute, a crank lever having a roller located adjacent the periphery of t-he disk and operatively connected to the coin holding lever, a setting lever piv# oted to the crank lever, a lug'extending from the setting lever, a pivoted'arm having a roller normally held away from vthe perplr ery of the disk, a "spring for .rocking the arm into the path of the lug when the setting lever is elevated, a dispensing device and a connection from the setting lever and the dispensing device for operating the latter when a coin is caught in one of the `seats vand rocks the crank lever, the saidcoin in the seat subsequently operating the arm and releasing the setting lever.

the coin previously introduced in the chute acting as a guide to direct a subsequent coin to one of the coin seats, the said coin acting on the crank lever to operate the dispensing :means and release the coin on the pin and subsequently acting on the rollervon 'the arm to reset the parts.

a chute having a branch to direct a .coin to one of the seats in the disk, means fortem- -porarily supporting a coin in ,the chute on pins extending therefrom to temporarily support a coin adjacent the branch in th`e chute and subsequently catch and hold the coin for a definite period after having been released from its temporary position, a dispensing device,means including pivoted levers operable by a coin held in one of the seats for operating the dispensing device and releasing the temporarily supported coin, and means subsequently operated upon by said coin for finally releasing the coin.
