CARRIER FOR PNEUMATIC TUBES.

The object of the invention is to provide a carrier for such a system, which may be utilized as a carrier traveling to any desired salesmans station in the system.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of a carrier embodying my invention, Fig. 2, a side elevation of the same with a portion broken away and shown in section, Fig. 3, an end view of the carrier, and Fig. 4, a section taken on line az-w of Fig. 1.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawing, comprises a sheet metal receptacle 1 which is substantially square in cross section and is provided in each side at each end with a series of superposed longitudinal slots 2, as shown. Substantially T-shaped guide members 3 are made from a single strip of sheet metal bent into T form, as shown, and are designed to be secured in said series of perforations in the same horizontal plane with their stem portions projecting through said perforations and their head portions abutting the inner sides of receptacle 1, as indicated. Removable end members 1 and 5 are provided for receptacle 1 and these end members are provided with inwardly extending flanges 6 adapted to extend into the corresponding ends of receptacle 1 where they are removably secured 1n position by means of screws 7, as indicated. The flanges 6 adjoining the sides of receptacle 1 are spaced inwardly from said sides sufiiciently to accommodate the heads of guide members 3, as shown, and the inner ends of these flanges are provided with outwardly turned flanges 8 adapted to close the inner ends of. the recesses thus formed, thus excluding small coins or other articles from said recesses. A felt pad or packing 9 is secured to each end of receptacle 1 and a steel guard plate 10 is placed over said packing and secured in position by means of screws 11, as shown, said packing being designed to fit and operate in pneumatic tubes, as will be readily understood, and said plate 10 is provided as a guard for said packing to prevent injury thereto from striking the trigger or lever mechanism usually employed in such systems. Receptacle 1 is provided with a hinged cover 12, the upper flange on end member 5 being removed to permit said cover to swing to open position.
By this construction it will be observed that the guide members 3 may be readily adjusted on the carrier to ride in any set of internal guides arranged in the tubes, as
set forth in the patent above referred to, and thus the carrier may be arranged to operate for any desired salesmans station on the system. In the form of construction set forth in the patent above referred to, it is necessary to provide separate carriers for each separate salesmans station. As the sales made at each salesmans station vary from time to time, sometimes being a maximum at one station and sometimes at another, it is necessary with the construction set forth in said patent to provide sufiicient carriers for each salesmans station to take care of the maximum sales made at said station, notwithstanding the fact that it is only occasionally that the sales at each salesmans station reach this maximum. By means of my improved construction it is only necessary to provide sufficient carriers to take care of the normal run of sales at each station and a certain number of extra carriers which may be readily adjusted to run to any salesmans station having a maximum or abnormal run of sales. Thus the number of carriers necessary for the system may be materially reduced without impairing the Patent, is:

. Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 1. A carrier for pneumatic tubes comprising a receptacle having perforations in its sides near its ends; headed guide members projecting through said perforations; and
. removable ends for said receptacle having inwardly projecting portions arranged to hold said guide members in position in said perforations, substantially as described.
2. A carrier, for pneumatic tubes comprising a receptacle having superposed perforations in each of its sides near each of its ends; headed guide members projecting through said perforations; and removable ends for said receptacle having inwardly projecting portions arranged to hold said guide members in position in said perforations, substantially as described.
3. A carrier for pneumatic tubes comprising a sheet metal receptacle having series of said guide members in position in superposed longitudinal slots therein; substantially T-shaped guide members having their stems projecting through said slots; and removable ends for said receptacle hav ing inwardly extending flanges arranged to hold said guide members in position in said slots, substantially as described.
4. A carrierfor pneumatic tubes comprising a sheet metal receptacle having a series of superposed longitudinal slots located at each side and each end of said receptacle; substantially T-shaped guide members having their stems projecting through said slots; and removable ends for said receptacle having inwardly extending flanges arranged to hold said guide members in position in said slots, substantially as described.
5. A carrier for pneumatic tubes comprising a sheet metal receptacle having a series of superposed longitudinal slots located at each side and each end of said receptacle;
substantially T-shaped guide members havng their stems pro ect1ng through said slots, lsald guide members consisting of a single strip of metal bent into T form; and removable ends for said receptacle having inwardly extending flanges arranged to hold said slots, substantially as described.
