To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY K. PORTER., of Boston, in the county of Suifolk and State of Massachusetts, `have invented a new and, useful Saw-set; and I do hereby declare that the following, taken in connectionwith the drawing which accompanies and. forms part of this specification, is a description of my invention sufcient to enable those skilled in the 'art to which it appertains to practice it.
This invention relates to new and useful improve- 4ments in that class of saw-sets which is held sta'- tionary in a vise, or by other means, when in use; and
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement `of the parts relatively to each other, as he'reinafter described.

b is 4the plunger, having an elongated cap, c, formed uponit, while a pin, d, depends from this cap into a hole in body A, and a coiled spring, e, shown iu sect-ion in fig. 2, serves to elevate the plunger when the pressure of the lever B is removed.
The lower end ofplungei b is formed as shown in iig. 3, in order that it may act upon the tooth being set without'aetiug upon those on either side thereof.

and is adjustable by means of the slot through which the screw passes, as shown;

In use the set is secured in a vise, as before stated. The gauge y is adjusted for the length of teeth to'be set, and the' screw l is elevated or depressed to give the desired width of set, and, b-yvnieans of its swinging movement, it is adjusted to suit the width of saw.- plate, and locked in that position by the screw-uut 7c. The saw is then' placed beneath screwvl and the teeth brought against gauge g, when, by actuating lever B, the teeth are successively set to the required degree. It will be apparent that, by means of the swinging movement of screw l, it may beadj usted to the widest or narrowest saw, obviating the usual ineumbranee ot' aplurality of' stops to accomplish the same purpose., and by combining the plunger and anvil withA aleverpress the force exerted upon the saw-teeth is equally as elective as the blow'delivered upon a hammer-set,
-but obviates the liability of breaking or jamming the teeth which attends the' use of that fornrf set.`
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The saw-set, consisting of the lever-press AIL' the plunger b, anvil f, gauge g, and the vibrating or swinging adjusting stop-screw l, connected and arranged substantially as described and shown.
2. The vibrating or swinging adjusting stop-screw l, substantially as described andv shown.
