So, too, other flanged metal sections such as channels and I-beams may be substituted for the angle irons which form the studding and raiter. It is further obvious that, instead of the studding being vertically disposed, it may, in some cases, be disposed horizontally and the ribs oi the lathing arranged vertically.
The clips may be made by drop forging or as malleable castings, if desired. lilowever, it has been found to be less expensive and, for practical purposes, better to punch them from rolled bars or st lps having'lapered or beveled side portions cor ponding to the desired taper or bevel of the portions 2 and 2 of the clips, as shown. in Figs. 12 and 13. The clips, may he punched in the position shown in 1.2, in which case only the two portions 2 or theclip will be tapered; or, as shown in Fig. 13, in which case only the portion 9- and the fingers 8 will be tapered.

What I claim is:
1. 2. A clip of the character described comprising a body having a slot in the margin thereof converging inwardly and terminating in an enlarged hole which has a notch oitset at the back of said hole diametrically opposite said slot, all arranged so that when said clip is mounted on a hollow sheet metal rib the edges of the slot will bind the rib and the notch will prevent transverse displace ment.
3. A clip of the character described comprising a body portion which has a straight edge and which increases in thickness iii-- The combination with a clip comprising a body having a slotin a margin thereof terminating in a hole which is enlarged transversely from the inner throat of said slot,

5. The combination with a clip comprising a body having a slot in a margin thereof terminating in a hole, said body being tapered toward a different margin, of a sheet having high ribbed portion tapered to conform to the tapered portion of the clip and fitted upon it, the ribbed portion in the-region of said hole being indented into the hole.
