packing around the upper portion of the valve stem.
The invention further has for its object to provide an improved type of valve which regulates the amount of liquid which flows from the reservoir to the brush.
In the accompanying drawing :Fi ure 1 is an elevational view of the improved rush.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the im roved brush. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the piece which guides the valve stem. 7 1
Thisimproved brush comprises a reser1 voir 1 which is provided at one end with a threaded socket 2, the bottom 3 of which is of inverted frusto-conioal form and provided with an apical opening4. The valve stem 5 is passed through the opening 4 and is surrounded by a suitable packing 6 which .is held in place by a plug 7. The plug 7 is against the edge of the reservoir and threaded into the socket 2 and is provided with a frusto-conical inner face 8v which compresses the packing into a double frustoconical shape so that the packing is tightly held against the stern and prevents any danger of the liquid leaking from this end of the reservoir. A milled flange 9 is formed at the upper end of the plug 7 so that the plug can be removed when desired. A ring 10 is brazed into the opposite end of the reservoir and is provided wit-h a bridge 11 which extends across the inner end of the ring and is provided with a central threaded opening 12.- The outer end of the ring 10 rovided with a flange 13 which rests i re; vents the ring from slipping too far into the reservoir when assembling the device. A cap 14 is provided with a reduced threaded central portion 16 which is threaded into the threaded end 16 of the ring 10 and is provided with a concaved inner face 17. The threaded end 18 of the valve stem is screwed through the opening 12 formed in the bridge 11 and has its inner end 19 formed into a needle valve which fits into the inner end of the feed tube 20 and regulates the amount of liquid which will flow through thefeed tube. The outer end 21 of the cap 14 is reduced and threaded so as to hold the ring 22. A plate 23 is provided with a central collar 24 which surrounds the outer portion of the feed tube 20. The brush 25 18 secured to the plate 23 by means of the wire binding 26 and the brush and plate are will fit tightly into the feed tube and prevent the liquid from passing out through the end. By having the opposite end of the feed tube surrounded by the packing the liquid is prevented from passing out through that end and it is therefore impossible for the brush to leak. It should be noted that by' having the packing formed as described the packing fits a great deal-tighter around the valve stem as the shape of the faces of the socket and lug causes the greater of the packing to be forced toward t e center and around the stem. i
What I claim is A device of the character described comprising a reservoir, a valve stem adjustably mounted in said reservoir, a detachable cap in said reservoir, said cap being provided with a centrally located feed tube, a plate below said cap and provided with a depend- Patented Sept. 24,1912.
