Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE- camas i. viianiiia, or cansa mins, iowa.
j Doon-mini 'l 1.038,994. Mitigation o! Letters Istant. Patented Sept. 17, 1912. appiimion nos april i, isis. sensi x9'. camu. To ill whom it may concern: I .which `is ada ted to receive the ton ue Be it.kiiown that I, C'nAiiLns'P. Vakman, a citizen of Ithe United States, residing at Cedar Rapids, in the countv of Linn and State oi Iowa, have invente new and useful Im rovements in Door-Frames, of which the following is aspeciication.
The present inventionrelates to theconstruct-ion of door frames for silos.
In carrying out my invention it is my purpose to provide a door frame 'for this urpose whose 'vertical stiles shall be rabted and shall have the inner wall rovided by-thev saidrabbets inclined or beve ed,
the silo and' the rabbets shall serve as pockets forthe reception of tongues provided upon the cross or sill members of the door frame, the said sillsl being also vertically adjustable to accommodate doors of different. heights.
I further aim t' provide a door frame for silos that Ashallbe simple, strongland dilrable to eil'ectively resist the pressure of the door thereon when the contents of the'silo contact with the'door to force the said door against the frame.
It is also my purpose to provide novel andy effective means for sustaining theadjustwell ns to connect the bod of the silo.
` 'l ith the above recited objects in view a'nd others, the nature of which will be -rnore a parentas the descriptionis devolo ed, t e improvement resides in the construction, combination and novel arrangement of parte set forth in the specification and :Ealing within the scope of the'clalms. -f
, In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a silo provided with my improved door frame. Fi 2 is a sectional view upon the line 22 o Fig.x 1. Fig. 8 is a sectional view upon the` 'ne 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail4 sectional pers ective view of one of thevertissl stiles of te door frame. 'Fi 5 is a detail pers ective view of one o the cross sills for t ejdoorway. j. Referrin now to thei'drswings in detail vertical stiles with the the numera 1 designates aportion of a silo.
The silo may be of an .ordinary or, deaired construction, and e numerals 2 and the stiles'shiill extend t-he'ent-ire height of able cross sills upon the vertical stiles as' 8 designate', .the sieiftiosliiniembers or stiles eine. sie; This: .sie
citim .tions'of the rabbeted stiles 2 and 8.
formed upon t e member of the silo at jacont this end of the door frame, while the stile 3 is provided with a, tongue upon its outer edge which is ada ted to'be received' within a'y oove provided upon the member of the si o adjacent the said stile. Both of the stiles 2 'and 3- have their inner faces rabbeted, ad'acent their outer edges, the
inclined away from the outeredges of the said stiles as desi ated'by the. numerals 5. The outer faces ofthe stiles 2 and-8 at their inner edges are recessed tb provide for the reception of one of the members of L-sha vplates which are designated by the numerals G aud 7, respectively. These plates are provided with spaced openin which register with similar openingsin t e stiles, the purpose of which will be resent-ly set forth.
The numerals 8 an 9 designatetlie cross sills for 'the door frame. centrally provided upon their inner faces with longitudinally extending tongues 10 which project a suitable distance beyond the sills .proper or the outer faces thereof, and the projecting portions of-the ton ies .have their, extremities -beveled or linclined to siu ly engage within the 'rabb'eted portions as well as the inclined or beveled walls ,provided by the said rabbetedprolto'ng'us" .10, while preferablyintegrally formed'with the sills 8 and 9 not only serve 'as sneective reinforcement for the sills 8 and 9, but also rovide pockets 'or recesses which .register 'wi h the recesses or rabbeted portions of the vertical sti1es,1and the coniiliuous de ressed portions thus for the depressions are provided upon both. the
upler and lower edges of the cross sills, so
tha .the up depression serves for the reoeption of t e lower edge of one door while the lower depression serves for the reception of the u per edge of the next door.
The sills 8 an 0 may, and refersbly have their outer faces and e s reinforced through the medium of ang e plates 11.
Secured upon the lates12", and1 atta suits" able distance away roml the` opposite ends thereon are substantially U-shaped 'bracket members 13, the pro'ecting` arms of which being each centrally formed with a'r'e'cess'or depression 14,' and. the said depressions are adapted to receive bands 15 which surround the silo. These bands or hoops are sustained in properpositions upon both thesiloand the rertica stiles of the doorwayl through the lmedium of suitable staples 1 e It. should befherestated that' the oppositey nection witli the accompanymgldrawings;
frame for the same',y the said door frame eme bodyn' vertical stiles Jhavingtheir` innerl`lv inner walithus provided beveledycross'sills;
for thevertical utiles, each of the' aaidcrou silla being centrally provided with a toaglie faces' a jncentftheir edgea'rab which extends beyond the sill atid'whie lele r`sills adapted'to pro'ect beyond the sills and -to be' connected wit "adapted to be received within the rabbeted ortionsf'of the vertical stiles, theppposite l onzitudinal faces of the tongue being bevand plates upon the outer face of the the stiles and with the tonguesof-the sills.
2f- A door-'frame for the purpose set forth embodying spaced vertical stiles having theirzinner faces adjacent their edges .p ro- '\"idedwith rabbets, transversely arranged slls'for' the stiles, each of said sills being centrally provided with a longitudinally extending tongue which project-s bevond the edges of the sills und which 'is adapted to berecen-ed 1n and secured within tie rab- Ibetsofthe vertical` stiles, plates upon the outer faces of the' sills and projecting from 'the faces of the Stiles and means for connecting the; plates with the stiles.
3. A door-frame for silos comprising verti'calstiles, having their inner faces rabbeted adjacent their op osite vert-ical edges, angle'pl'ates for the e gs of the stiles,'sills for-.the stiles', saidsills eing each provided lwith `arcentrally arranged longitudinally extending tongue which pro'ects eyond the vedgesof-Ptllemsills and is a apted to be re- 'c'eivedwit-hin the rabbets of the stilcs and to bejfs'cured thereim'plates upon the outer fsces'ofzthe sills, each of sind plates pro- ;jjecting beyond `the faces of the oppositely 'arranged` stilesgfmeans for securing the l'platesto the -stils, L-shaped Vbrackets upon hefst1les,.;"eachof saidbrackets having its oti`set member centrally recessed and hoops .arran `'d 4within therecesses und connected g '-Intcst imonv whereof I aiiix my signature injpresence o vtwo witnesses.
