eepemtion of the sections 1whenever desired.`
A. further object is to provide a carrier section coupling composed of members 'which shell be interchengeable end capable et eppiicetion to either end of a carrier.
The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, ell as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
in the accompanying drawings forming port et this specification, Figure 1 is a. side elevation. of the abutting ends of carrier sections, with my invention applied thereto, ,u 2 is e similar View of one end section detached from the other one, F ig. 3 is a view, partially in section, showing the construction of one member of the coupling, 4 is e sectional view on the line -w of Fig. 2, Fig. 5 is an. end View of one of the sections and of the coupling applied thereto, Fig. 6 is a detail View of one of the coupling members detached from the carrier.
ln the drawing, 2 represents the abutting rails of the carrier sections wherein the rollrs 3 are mounted on rods 4t. The abutting ends of the rails 9. are provided With recesses fi end yokes 6 are pivoted et 7 to the rails in the rear ot seid recess. These yokes comprise side bars adapted to straddle the ends of the rails and cross bars or bridges 8 and 9 between the side bars or rails. The bridge 9 projects above the side bars in position to Contact with the rail at the upper edge of the therein and form a stop for limiting the upward swinging movement of the yoke. ber also may rest upon the Wall @ottoni oi' the recess, es shown in Fig. limit the downward movement of the Q yoke. lo, :i socket ll being formed between the bars S and 9 so that when the members of the coupling are brought together the de- 'fhe ber 8 hes a depending extension.
pending portion 10 of one coupiing will drop into the socket l1 in the other coupling' member and lock the parts securely together as shown in Fig. l. t Will be understood that the rails are tilted out of elirmme'nt` with. one another to ellovv the coupling members to be joined together and when in this position the cross ber 8 will beer on the edge of the rei-l at the top of its recess and the cross bar 9 Wili 'beer on the edge of theV rail at the'bottoni of its recess, thereby preventing separation of the coupling members aeelong as the rails 'out the carrier ore infalinement vvith one another. When the rails are tilted upwardly then thev coupling members may be disengaged.
An important feature of this coupling device lies in the tact that the members of the couplings are interchangeable and no fitting or adjustment is required.
I do not-.limit myself to the details of the construction herein shown and described, as 1t 1s obvious the same may be varied 1n many particularsv Without departing from my invention.
I claim as my invention 1. The combination, with the abutting rails provided With recessed ends, of yokes pivoted on -said ends and having sockets therein and cross bars bridging said sockets, each yoke having a projection to enter the socket of the other yoke, and the cross bar of one yoke bearing on the rail at the .top of its recess and the cross bar of the other yoke bearing on the rail at the bottom of its recess, whereby When the mils are in alinement their abutting ends will be locked together.
2. The combination, with abutting rails, of interchangeable, interlocking coupling members pivot'ed on said rails, each, wupling member having a socket to receive the other coupling member, and both coupling mem` bers having means for locking them against premature separation. 3. The combination, with rails having abutting ends, of coupling members pivoted thereon, each member having a socket to re-v esv 4. The comb11aton,wth rails having ing them together when be ends are in il# abuttngends,'of yokes mounted thereon and alinement with one anether.
having cross bars and sockets between them, n Witness whereof, have hee'une seil the outer cross bars having depending pormy hand this 27th day 0395x1137, i921.
