Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAV SAHMER, a subject of the German Emperor, and residing at Strassburg, Alsace-Lorraine, German Emplre, have invented certain new and use-- ful Improvements in Door-Locks, of WlllCh the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to improvements in door locks, and relates more specifically to an electrically operatedv and freeing respectively the latch bolt of oor locks, and the particular object of the invention is to provide means in connection with such electrically controlled door locks whereby the lock-bar is mechanically secured in either end posi-I tion, and is so constructed that a bending or breaking of it, upon the latch bolt encountering it in the locked position, is effectively prevented.
In order to make my invention more read ily understood, I will now describe it with reference to the accompanying drawing, in

WVithin the box 1 are secured in the support 2 the iron cores 3, 4 with their insu- -lated'wire coils5, 6, whose outer wire ends 2, and is secured to the lock-bar 16, which latter can reciprocate in the support 2 and also in a guide plate 17, preferably stamped out of the wall of the box and bent rectangularly thereto, which plate also serves as protecting shield for the operating parts. In order to prevent bending or breaking of the head of the reciprocating lock-bar upon the bolt 24 being shot and the lock-bar being already'in the locked position, its
side facing the bolt and the lower front edge of the bolt are rounded off, as shown in the modified form of the describeddevice as illustrated in Fig. 4, and the bar itself is composed of two relatively movable parts, the tubular member 25 and the lockingmember proper 27 guided therein and acted on by the spring 26. Upon the bolt striking the projecting lock-bar head the rounded-off faces easily glide over one another, the locking member readily receding under compression of the interposed spring 26, until the bore 36 in the bolt registers with the lock-bar head,

The coil 5 attracts the armature and the lock bar 16 enters the recess in the bolt 24-and thereby locks the latter. Suppose now that the person going out or wanting to enter the door has no access to the switch 30, then it would be impossible to operate the de therefore-necessary to connect-1n the loose key switch 34. The person going out must connect the lever S with contact 6 whereby the'switch 34: is cut into the main circuit. The combination with a lock comprising a reciprocating bolt, of coaxially dis-' posed electromagnets,a reciprocating armature thereto operating axially thereof, a lock bar operated by said armature and cooperating with said reciprocating bolt, and a rocking armature operated by said electromagnets and cooperating with said lock bar for securing it ineitheroperative end posi-' 4.
