INVEN ZOR.
M- Mormm m';
. T6 all whom it ma'y concern:
Be it known that I, MIcHAL Momwreo u, a subject of the Emperor of Austrian Hungary, residing at Pittsburgh,v in the" county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Closures or Stoption, reference being .or stopper, and the objects of my inventionpers, of which the following is a specificahad therein to the ac:
com anying drawing. v
T is invention relates to a bottle closure are, first, to provide a closure or stop'per thatvcan be easily andquickly placed in the neck of a bottle to seal the same; second, to furnish a closure or stopper with a novel lockingdevicethat' prevents its removal exce t by an authorized person equipped with a ey, third, .to provide a closure or stopper that insures a nonleakable condition, and
fourth, to accomplish the above. results by a mechanical constructionthat is simple,
I durable and highly efiicient for the purposes for which it is intended. I r
The above, and other objects, are attained by the novel construction, combination and arr'an ement of parts to be hereinafter or stopper.
view of a detached closure or stopper. Fig.
8 is a plan of the-same. Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line X-X,
of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a similar View taken on the line'W-W,= of Fig. 2, and Fig. 6 is a side'elevation of a key or wrench partly broken away and partlyin section. 1
A closureor stopper in accordance with this invention comprises a tuberous or knobshaped body 1, having the lower end thereof reduced, as at 2, and-the upper endthereof provided with a cylindrical-socket 3. The
body Lhas a central longitudinal bore 4,
rectangular in cross-section, and extends from the lower end of the body to the socket 3. In the lower end of the bore 4 there is mounted a rectangular bushing 5, having a rectangular opening dformed therein.
Movably mounted in the bushing 5 is the rectangular shank 7 of a pin 8, said pin having the lower end thereof provided with a head 9. The upper'end of the shank 7 is screw threaded at 10, said screw extending "BorrLE oLosU'Rr. on s'rorrrin.

PatentedSept'. 3.1912.
I througha metallic washer. 11 mounted upon the bottom of the socket 3. A nut 12 is screwed upon the screw 10for a purpose as will presently appear. Arranged upon-the pin 8 and resting upon the head 9 are a plurality of superimposed compressible embers or gaskets 13, preferably'made of rubber, and these members are adapted to be vertically compressed and laterally ex- '65 panded by rotating the nut 12 to draw the pin 8 toward the upper end of the body 1;
To facilitate the rotating of the nut 12 a key or wrench 14 can be employed, said key having the lower end thereof provided with 7.0
sockets 15 and 16, the former providing clearance for the upper end of the screw 10 and the'latterreceiving the nut 12.- With the pin 8-in a loweredposition, the lower end of the closure or stopper can be easily placed in the neck 17 of a bottle ,18, with the angular shoulder 19 of the bodyl resting upon the upper end of the neck 17. By.
then placing the, key or wrench over the nut 12 and rotating the same the pin 8.v can. be
elevated to expand the members 13 and cause said members to frictionally engage the inner walls of the neck 17 and provide a nonleakable connection between the closure and the bottle neck. As the socket 3 is just of suflicient diameter to accommodate the key or wrench 17, the fingers cannot be in-. sorted in the socket-to rotate the nut, consequently the closure or stopper cannot be removed except by the use of the key or,90-
some other instrument by which the nut 12 .can be gripped.
What I.-clai1'n is a A bottle stopper comprising a body having the lower end reduced and adapted to extend into the, neck of a bottle, the enlarged portion of said body seated upon the top edge of the neck of the bottle, said body provided with a longitudinal bore terminatmg at its upper end in'a socket at the top of said body, an aperture disk mounte upon the bottom of the socket and constituting an abutment, a bushing provided with a rectangular opening mounted in said bore at the lower end thereof, a. pin having a rectangular lower portion extending through said opening and carrying a hea at its lower end, the upper portion of said pin being threaded and extending through said disk, 7 resilient gripping mounted upon said pin and supported at said head and adapted to engage'the lower members In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
MICHAL MORAWIECKI.
Witnesses:
end of said body and adapted to grip the inner face of the neck of a bottle, and a key operated nut mounted upon the threaded portion of the pin for shifting the latter to elevate the lower said member and engaging said disk for maintaining the pin in an adjustable position. I
