To all whom it may concern:

My invention relates to in'iprovenients in harp actions and has for its object the produetion of a sharpilg device for harps which will le of improved. coi'istruction and ellicient in operation.

The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described ant. claimed.

The preferred form of constructioi'i, as illustrated in the drawing eompris s a .pindie 1, the respective ends of which are to tatably mounted in the usual spaced plates 2 of the neck of a conventional harp. Carried at one extremity of the spindle 1 is the harping-fork comprising the disk and the diametric outwardly projecting pins 4-. Oscillation of the spindle l for eifecting the sharping desired is seen red by means of the operating arin which is threaded upon the spindle 1 midway the extremities thereof. The portion 6 of the spindle l engaged by the arm is of greater diameter than the rcinaindcr of said spindle. and said portion is pii'eilerably provided with left-hand screw threads. Thrct-ided upon the opposite ends of said spindle are nuts '7 which abut against OPDC'SliiQ sides of toe arm 5 to relcasably or adjustably loch said arm to said spindle. The end portions of the spindle, that is the portions thereof engaged by the nuts 7 are provided with right-hand screw threads so as to adapt said nuts to effectually lock said arm 5 in position, the latter, above mentioned, being ei'igaged with left-hand screw threads.
With a construction, as set forth, the arm 5 may be securely locked to the spindle 1 for effecting oscillation thereof in the sharping operation. hen for any reason it is desired to adjust the arm 5 with relation to the spindle l, the nuts t need only to be retracted, in which event said arm will be free for rotatable adjustment to the desired position. After adjustment said arm may be expeditiously locked in its position of adjustment by moving said nuts into abutting position against the opposite sides of said arm. The construction simple and economical, and
of high efliciency in use.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred. form of construction for carrying my invention into ellect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction as set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications is come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention. what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a sharping device for harps, a rotatable spindle; a sharping-fork carried by sai.d spindle; an operating arm threaded on said spindle; and nuts threaded on said spindle for adjustably locking said operating arm to said spindle, substantially as described.
2. In a sh arping device for harps, a rotatable spindle; a sharpingfork carried by said spindle; an operating arm threaded on said spindle; and means adjustably secured to said spindle and abutting opposite sides of said arm for adjustably locking the latter to said spindle, substantially as described.
3. In a sharping device for harps, a rotatable spindle; a sharping-fork carried by said spindle; an operating arm threaded on said spindle, the portion of said spindle engaged by said operating arm being of a diameter larger than that of the remainder of said spindl and nuts threaded on said spindle for locking said operating arm to said spindle, substantially as described.
4. In a sharping-device for harps, a rotatable spindle; a sharping-fork carried by said spindle, said spindle intermediate its ends being formed with a portion of a diameter greater than that of the remainder of said spindle; an operating arm threaded on said enlarged portion of said spindle: and nuts threaded on said spindle abutting opposite sides of said operating arm for ad justably locking the latter to said spindle, substantially as described.
5.
