the briegiee preeeeds as follows: The briquets are fedto and pass' through the supplying chute 7i into the compartments d of the upper drum Z). Owing to the rotation of the drum L' around its axis in the direction ot' the arrow (Fig. l).produced by any suitable motor and intermediate driving means through the aid f thesproclret wheels t t the briquets contained ian the compartments d are carried through the upper part of the shaftof the casing a and pass through the chute ./c in a preliminarily dried or roasted condition to the next lower drum o which carries the briquets through a lower level ot' the shaft in which the hot gases ascending from the supply pipe o are of a higher temperature than vin the upper part of the shaft so that the briquets continuously in con'- tact with the ascending current of hot air become fully roasted. rlhis procedure of conveying the briquets through the ascending' hot air in a direction counter to the path. ot the hot air during a lengthot time that can be predetermined by the number ofsuperposed drums and by the speed of rotation of the drums, insures acomplete roasting or colring of the binding medium. From the lowest drum the completely roasted briquets slide through the chute m to the conveyer n.
The bottom plate k of the chute 1c is by means of a hinge k2 or otherwise pivotally connected to the wall -g, so as to be adjustable to any desired angle and the cross-secv tional area ot the chute at the lower end of the plate af can separately be regulated by means of a sl" le fr or the like. p i
What I claini as my invention is:
l. Apparatus for coling or roasting briquets, comprising a plurality of superposed drums having perforated walls and provided with radial compartments adapted to receive the briquets, a' chute :tor delivering the briquets to the' top drum, an intermediate chute `tor conveying the briquetsl to the next lower drum, a discharge chute in connection with the lowermost drum, a conduit at the bottom of the apparatus for supplying the drying and heatingl medium, and
a perforated guide below each drum `for 4supporting the briquets in the drum.
2. Apparatus for colring or roasting bri quets, comprising a plurality of superposed 'drums having perforated walls and prouided with radial compartments adapted to receive the briquets, a chute for delivering `mediate chute for conveying the briquets to the next -lower drum, a discharge chute in connection with the lowermostdrum, a hot air supply at the bottom of the appatermediate chute.
y 3. Apparatus for colring or roasti briquets, comprising a plurality of superposed drums having perforated walls and prdvided with radial compartments adapted to receive the briquets, a chute for delivering the briquets to the topmost drum, an intermediate chute for conveying the briquets `to the next lower drum, adischarge chute in air supply at the bottom of the apparatus, a rperfor-ated curved guide plate below each drum for supporting the briquets therein, alud anvadjustable slide in said intermediate c lute.
drums having perforated walls and provided with radial compartments adapted to receive the briquets, achute for delivering the briquets to the top drum, an intermediate' chute 'for conveying the briquetsto the next lower drum, a. discharge chute in connection with the lowermost drum, a conduit at the bottom of the apparatus for supplying the' drying and heating medium, and a perforated guide below each drum lfor supporting the briquets in the drum, and a conveyer in connection with said dis# charge chute. 4 In testimony whereof I have aix'ed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
