To all w/io/my it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALBERT lV. lil/TEN- nonr andD'I'ro l". SAMPn, citizens of the United States, and residents of Chili, in the eounty of Clark'and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and improved Feed- Box, of which the foliowing is a specifica-- tion.
Uur invention is en irngnovenient in Vleed boxes, and has `tor its object the provision of a simple, inexpensive iong livedlbox ot plastic material, so eonstrnrted as to prevent wasting oit feed while permitting tbe entire contents to be grot ln the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a trough constructed in aceordanee with the invention; and ili`igs. :Z and 3 aro sections on the lines 2--2 and 3--3 ot' Fig. l.
ln the present embodiment of tbe invention, the box is composed of plastic material, as for instance cement or concrete and oomprises a bottom l, side weils 2, and end walls 3, all integral and continuons with The bottoni l is o greater thickness than the side or end walls. and the said side and end Walls are ot' greater thickness adjacent to the bottom, and lgradually taper or decrease in thickness toward the top. At the top, each of the said walls inclined inwardly on its outer tace., as indi cated ate, and a rib 5 is formed on thel inner .tare of tbe trough, the said rib having its walls or sides t3 and 7 meeting at an angle o1 approxinmtely 90C. The rib 5 is continuons around the mouth ot the trough. and a reinforcement 8 oi suitable material is arranged' at approximately the center ot each wall and of the bottom. The said reinforeo nient in the present instance of wire ganze, and extends to near the top or upper edge o'l' the side and end walls.
The improved box may be of any desired or .suitable din'iensions, and a plate 9 ot metal is arranged in the bottom, just above the reinforcing material 8, and resting thereon. The said plate extends from the reinforcement at one end to that at the other and is provided with openings for permit? tingI the passage of screw bolts 10. The heads l1 of the said bolts rest on the upper face of plate 9, and they are of suliicient length to extend below the lower face of the bottom, to engage a suitable support to hold the box in the position desired.
Flach boit is preferably provided with' a polygonal portion 12, adlaeent to the head, and the plate 1l is preferably provided with an opening fitting the polygonal portion, so that the bolts cannot turn. The plates and bolts are ofcourse inserted during the process of molding the box.
ln use the rib will prevent wasting of the feed in the box by the stock, and as the box is of plastic material, the animals cannot gnaw or injure the same; This' is of advantagesince the health of the stock is preserved and cribbing is prevented.
We claim z t feed box ot' plastic material, comprising` a bottom and integral side and end walls, the bottom being of greater thickness than the side and end walls and the said side and end Walls decreasing in thickness toward y".eir upper edges, the said upper edges being inclined inwardly, and a continuous inwardly ext-ending rib being formed on the inner surface ot the box at the top thereof,
and means embedded in the material of the bottom for permitting the box to be secured to a lixed support.
ALBERT W. WENDORF. OTT() F. SAMPAE.
