To all whom it may concern Be it known that 'I, BYRD C. ROCKWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Malvern, in the county of Hot Spring and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful Door and Window Closure, of which the following is a specification.

It is the object of this invention to provide a screen closure for door and window openings, so constructed that certain of the cumbersome and disfiguring cross bars, whereby opposite sides of the frame of the closure are connected, may be dispensed with.

Another object of the invention is to in crease the strength and to enhance the wearing qualities of a screen closure, without materially increasing the weight or the cost of the same.

The drawings show typical embodiments merely, and it is to be understood that changes, properly falling within the scope of what is claimed, may be made, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings,-Figure 1 shows a closure constructed in accordance with my invention, the same being shown in elevation; Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail, taken from Fig. 1, the views showing the manner in which the independent strands are interwoven with the mesh-forming strands; Fig. 3 is a transverse section upon the line A-B of Fig. l; and Figs. 4 and 5 are elevations, showing modified forms of closures.

The invention includes, as a primary and fundamental element, a frame 1. To this frame 1, the screen 11 is secured, in any desired manner. For instance, as seen in Fig. 3, the frame 1 may be provided with an outstanding tongue 2, against which the screen 11 is bound by means of superposed strips 3. Independent strands 4 are interwoven with the mesh-forming strands 5 of the screen, to define a reinforcing strip 6, extended longitudinally of the screen,

from the top to the bottom thereof. The edge of the screen, and the ends of the reinforcing strips are bound beneath the elements 3.

In the form shown in Fig. 1, the frame 1 is braced transversely by the usual cross bar 7. In the form shown in Fig. 4, however, this cross bar 7 is dispensed with, and two parallel longitudinally extended reinforcing strips 8 are provided.

In the form shown in Fig. 5, two longitudinally extended parallel reinforcing strips 9 are provided, transverse strips 10 being likewise shown. The independent strands which go to make up the strips 10 are interwoven, not only with the meshforming strands of the screen, but, as well, with those strands which go to make up the longitudinally extended strips 9.

From the foregoing it will be seen that my invention provides a closure in which some, and often all of the cumbersome trans verse bars denoted by the numeral 7, are dispensed with, the screen being so constructed that reinforcing strips may be formed therein, of a common texture with the screen, to replace the bars which com monly disfigure and increase the cost of door and window closure frames.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1- A closure for door and window openings comprising a rigid frame, a wire fabric secured at its edges to said frame, certain of the strands of said fabric being more closely woven than the remaining strands of the fabric to form a reinforcing panel.
