Be it known that I, ARTHUR V. A. Mc- Hans, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvenient in Switch and Cut-Out Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The invention is a switch and cut-out device for electric circuits, and consists in the construction, hereinafter more particularly described, whereby a removable fuse is brought into each lead of the circuit, and all the leads are controlled by a multiple manually operated switch lever.
The device comprises a block of insulating material, upon one side of which the fuses are removably supported, while on the other side the switch lever is pivoted. A plurality of bus bars, preferably passing through the block, are respectively connected to one terminal of each fuse, the remaining fuse terminals being connected to clips which receive the bars of the switch lever, which lever is also connected to the main circuit terminals on the block.

The block A of insulating refractory material, such as porcelain, has three recesses,
. B, C, D and E, F, G. In recess B are two pairs of contact clips H, I. In recess C are two pairs of contact clips J, K, and in recess D are two pairs of contact clips L, M. Cartridge fuses N are insertfd in the clips of recesses B7 C, D. In recesses E, F, G are pairs of contact clips O, P, Q, respectively connected by metal strips R to the upper clips H, J, L in recesses B, C, D. At the bottoms of recesses E, F, G are plates S, to which the positive, negative eind neutral leads of a three-wire system are connected, and which carry lugs T, in which are pivoted the bars U of a swinging switch lever .V. When the lever V is in upright position, the bars U enter clips O, P, Q. Extending through block A are three parallel bus bars a, c. An opening is formed in the block A in front ofbus bar a and between recesses B, E, in which opening is disposed a contact plate d, which makes contact with bus bar a and is connected to the clips I in recess B. The space between plate (Z and adjacent bus bar b may contain wedges e, of insulating material, whereby plate d may be forced closely against bar a, Fig. 3. An opening is formed in-block A in front of which opening is dispsed a contact plate f, which makes contact with bus bar Z) and is connected to the clip K in recess C. The space between plate c and adjacent bus bar c may contain wedges g, similar to wedges e", Fig. 4c. A contact plate 7L is disposed between har c and the wall of the block, and is connected to clip M in recess D.
It will be obvious from the foregoing construction, that the circuit proceeds from the bus bars a., b, c, through the fuses N, respectively connected to said bars, to the bars U of switch lever V, when the same is in circuit closing position, as shown in Figs. 3, 4, 5, and so to the circuit leads.
I claim:
l. A switch and cut-out device, comprising a block of insulating material, a plurality of'conducting bars extending through the same, a plurality of fuses on one side of nected to one of said barsand on the opposite side of said block, contacts connected to therremaining fuse terminals, circuit terminals, and a multiple switch lever cooperating with said circuit terminals and said contacts.
