AUGUST J. JENEVEIN, OF SAN BRUNO, CALIFORNIA.
FLOUR-SIFTER.
To (all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST J. JnNnvmN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Bruno, in the county of San Mateo and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flour- Sifters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in flour sitters.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved flour sitter which will give increased power to operate the agitator there in and very quick action in such operation.
My invention consists in the novel comhi' nation and arrangement of parts shown in the accompanying drawing, described in the following specification and claimed in the appended claims.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a side view of the said flour-sitter, the casing thereof being cut away to show the agitator therein, and Fig. 2, is a plan view of said agitator, contained in a screen.
In the figures, 1 shows a cylinder or casing, and 2 is a semi-circular sitting screen secured therein. A rod l extends across said casing and is pivoted in the all thereof as shown at 5. The said rod t is bent out like the letter U at its central point, designated (3, to form a crank on which is connected a rod 7, bein pivoted as shown at 8, and the other end oi said rod 7 is connected as shown at 9 to a piston rod 10, working in a transverse piece 11, secured at its ends to sleeves 12. Each sleeve 12 telescopes over the transverse bars 13 of said handle 3. Around the piston rod 10 a coil spring 14 extends so as to permit said piston rod to work therein. One end of said spring contacts with the transverse bar 11 supporting said rod 10 and the other end of said spring is contained in a socket 15 secured to a handle 3. On the rod 1 are secured semi-circular straps 16 and 17 constituting the means to agitate or loosen flour or other material which may be placed in the casing for such purpose. By the operation of the device the straps 16 and Specification of Letters Patent.

17 are given an oscillating movement by means of the action of the rod 7 and piston rod 10.
In the operation, the palm of the hand of the user contacts with the handle 3, the fingers engaging the bar 11, and movement of the fingers as engaged causes the working of the handle, the release of the handle eii'ecting through the expansion of the spring 1%, which is held in position by the spring case 15, the restoration of the handle to its original position. The reciprocating movement of the connecting rod 7 and the piston 10 giving the oscillating movement to the straps 16 and 17, whereby the loosening and sifting of the flour or other material as contained in the screen is quickly accomplished.
I claim 1. In combination a casing having a side opening, a depressed screen in said casing, a crank shaft extending across and pivoted in said casing, a bent strap in said casing and endwise secured to said crank shaft, a conn-ecting rod connected to the crank of said crank shaft and extending through said side opening, a sleeve above said connecting rod and a sleeve below said connecting rod, said sleeves extending transversely from said casing, a connecting piece having a central opening between and secured to said sleeves; a handle having arms slidably penetrating said sleeves, aspring case extending inwardly from said handle, a piston rod projecting through said central opening and connected to said connecting rod and a spring penetrated by said piston rod and having one end contained in said spring case and the other end engaging said connecting piece.
2. In combination a casing having a side opening, a depressed screen in said casing, a crank shaft extending across and pivoted in said casing, a plurality of separated bent straps depending in said casing and endwisc secured to said crank shaft; a connecting rod connected to the crank of said crank shaft and extending through said side opening; a sleeve above said connecting rod and a sleeve below said connecting rod, said I ing said handle and the other end engaging 10 sleeves extendlng transversely from said cas- I said connecting plece.
ing, a connecting piece having a central In testimony whereof I aflix my signature opening between and secured to said sleeves; in presence or" two Witnesses.
a handle having arms slidably penetrating said sleeves, a piston rod projecting through AUGUST JENEVEIN' said central opening and connected to said Witnesses:
connecting rod and a spring penetrated by R. B. TREAT,
said piston rod and having one end engag- WM. A. M. LEWIS.
