CHARLES H.,P.IOKERIING,' or MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE.
Letters Patent No. 103,497, dated May 24, 1870.
IMPROVEME N'I' H AND CORN-SHELLERS.
' The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
I, CHARLES H. PICKERING, of Memphis, in the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, have invented certain Improvements in a Hand Gorn-Sheller, of which the following is a specification.
The first part of my invention relates to the revolving shellers attached to the hollow pinion and the hopper or sheller, which serves as a support or bearing for the shafts, and the adjustable feeder rollers with the spiral springs, as shown. The sheller being. attached to a post, and by turning the crank with the right hand, and with the left thrust in the ear of corn, point first, between' the adjustable shellers, and hold it till it has reached the feed-rollers below, when it can he released and another car picked up and introduced.
Figure I is a side elevation of a machine, part in section, embodying my invention.
Figure II is ,a perspective of the same.
Figure 111 is a plan of the rollers, showing the spiral spring in position.
Figure 1V is a section through the hopper.
. A is the frame of the machine, which frame should be substantially constructed to resist the vibration of the operating parts.
13 is the hollow pinion, to which are attached the revolving shellers O O and the spiral springs D D, to
allow of the passing of any sized cob through the sheller.
E E are the adjustable rollers, and the spiral springs F F, to also allow of the passing of any sized cob.
The corn to be shelled is introduced from thetop of the machine, which is shown in Fig. I, turning the crank and introducing the corn, point first, between the adjustable shellers O 0,.and holding it till it has reached the feed-rollers E E, when it can be released and another ear picked up.
' I claim as my invention- 1. The combination of the revolving shellers'O O, and spiral springs D D, attached to the hollow pinion B, as and fox-the purposes he'reinbefore set forth.
2. The combination of the revolving hopper B with casing A, which serves as the support for the shafts E, substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore set forth.
3. The combination of the shellers '0 O, spiral springs D D, hollow pinion B, the adjustable feedrollers E E, and spiral springs F F, for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
CHARLES H. PIOKERING.
