I To all whom it may concern:
for Vehicles, of whichthe following is a specification.
This invention relates to a folding top f0 automobiles and other vehicles and more particularly to novel and efficient means for sustaining the hood between the outrigger bow and the rear bow in such a manner as not to subject the same to any objectionable strain. v
In the accompanying drawin Figure 1 is a side view of a.folding top 'em odying my invention, showing the same lowered,,and
Fig. 2 a similar view showing the hood raised.
To thevehicle body there is'pivoted at a the rear bow at to which a pair of additional rear bows b are shown to be pivoted at I).
' To bow a, there is furthermore pivoted at 'c the rear member 0 of a bipartite articulated outrigger how, the front member 0 ofwhich is hinged to member 0 at c. To rear mem-' ber e there is furthermore pivoted at a," an auxiliary bow d which is inclined upwardly and forwardly when the top is lowered (Fig.
1). To this auxiliary bow is pivoted at e the forward end of a backwardly extending strut e, the ,rear end of which is pivoted to how a at a point above pi'vot as at 6 This backwardly extending strut e is preferably slightly bent downward at its forward end v Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed February 27, 1911. Serial no. 611,022.

asjhown. To bow at there is furthermore pivoted at f the rear end of a forwardly extendin strut j, the front end of which. pivo. to the forward member 0 of the outrigger bow as at f.
When the top is let down (Fig. 1) th forward member 0 of the outrigger bow i braced from how a, by means of interconnected struts e,- bow d and struts f, sqthat in this way the hinge c as well as the body of the canvas top are relieved from excessive strain. 7 g
When the top is opened (Fig. .2) the auxiliar bow will be positively carried back war by the struts together with rear how a, and members 0, so that. their relative position is maintained without lacing strain on the hood during the folding opera.- tion. I
I claim: a
A folding top for vehicles comprising a rear bow, a bipartite outrigger bow pivoted thereto, an auxiliary bow pivoted to the rear. member of the outrigger bow, a first strut. pivoted to the auxiliary how and to th'e'rear bow, and a second-strut pivotedtothe auxiliary bow and to the front member of the outrigger bow, whereby said struts and auxiliary bow jointly form bracing means for said front member.
