ROLLER-SKATE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug, 6, 1912.
Application filed June 3, 1910. Serial No. 564,864.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, KARL KOHLER and FRIEDRICH FLoH, both subjects of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and residents of Vienna, Austria-Hungary, have invented new and useful Improvements in Roller- Skates, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to roller skates, in which the foot plate is connected by means of obliquely disposed swiveling pins to the inwardly inclined roller-axles so that in oblique position of the foot plate said axles are caused to assume a convergent position as is required when rounding curves. The ends of the foot plate according to the resent invention are bent downwardly and are disposed at right angles to the axes of the swiveling pins thus forming faces against which the latter hear. The roller-axles are normally kept parallel by a single spring connected to both axles.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification: Figure 1 is an elevation partly in longitudinal section of a roller skate according to the present invention fastened to the sole of a boot or shoe. Fig. 2 is a section along line l-l of Fig. 1.
The roller skate consists substantially of two foot plates a, a. fastened to the sole and heel of a boot or shoe respectively, and which are connected by an intermediate piece 6 which may be suitably adjusted by bolts entering correspondingly arranged slots in the foot plates.
The roller skate furthermore comprises axles A, A each carrying a pair of rollers suitably connected with the foot-plate.
The outer ends 0 of each of the foot-plates are bent down at an angle of about and provided with a hub N at right angles thereto.
eye at its outer free end is screwed. In the,
eyes of the arms t the ends of spiral springs F are fastened which normally tend to retain the two rollers in their original parall 1 position, and which are adapted to return tliem into their parallel position if they are moved out of it. In this manner the roller skate allows of a smooth and convenient rounding of the curves as the oblique posi tion of the sole-plate is caused by the oblique position of the foot, thus elastlcity is insured or taken up from a shoe and it may easily be taken apart for cleaning or-repalring purposes.
Having thus described our invention what we claim is A rollerskate comprising in combination, a sole plate, bearings carried by said sole plate and disposed with the axis of their bores converging downwardly toward each other with respect to said plate, axles each provided with a pair of rollers, swiveling pins to connect said axles with said sole plate and carried by said bearings, each swivel pin being disposed with its axis perpendicular to the axis of the axle it connects, and yieldable means for normally retaining said axles in parallel relation to each other.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
