PLOW ATTACHMENT.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 6, 1912.
Application filed January 17, 1912. Serial No. 671,615.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that'I, THOMAS T. WELLS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Decatur, in the county of Newton and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and useful Plow Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in plows.
The invention has for its object to provide for the suitable adjustment of the plow to position for use.
A further object is to provide for employing a plow-blade or point adapted for use in ordinary plowing or where roots or turfs are not engaged.
A still further object is to adapt the plow for cutting roots or turfs in eflecting the otherwise usual plowing operation.
A still further object is toprovide for the adjustment of the plow-blade or point, as well as the adjunctive parts thereof according to the wear of the plow-point or blade.
A still further object is to guard against the lateral displacement of the plow-point or blade toward the landside.
A still further object is to carry out the aforesaid ends in a simple, expeditious and efiective manner.
The invention consists of certain instrumentalities and features substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and defined by the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, illustrating the preferred embodiment'of my invention wherein it will be understood that various changes and modifications may be made as relate to the detailed construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit thereof, Figure 1 is a broken perspective view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a partly side-elevation and partly sectional view thereof, the section being taken on the line mw of Fig. 1. Figs. 8 and 4 are detached perspective views of the cutter-equipped member and the plow-point or blade, respectively.
In carrying out my invention I suitably provide the plow-foot or stock 1 with a cutter-equipped member 2, the cutter or blade being designated as 8-, which cutterequipped member includes a plate of gen eral rectangular outline adapted to be applied to the forward side of said plow-foot,

said plow-foot or stock having a longitudinal slot 4:, and the plow-point or blade 5 and the cutter-equipped member 2 being provided with like slots 6 and 7, respectively, which slots receive a common nutequipped bolt 8 for the retention and adjustment of said plow-point and said memand for com-,
her to position upon said stock, pensating for, or taking up, wear.
The cutter-equipped member 2 has, in addition to the cutter 3, formed along one longitudinal or vertical edge thereof, also an inwardly turned ledge or flange 9 formed thereon near its lower end, along the opposite longitudinal edge, which ledge or flange is adapted to laterally engage the plow footor stock and thus serve to prevent the possible displacement of the member 2, toward the landside.
The cutter-equipped member provides for severing roots and turf when plowing in that class of soil, and may be used in connection with the form of plow-point or blade shown, and also with any other form or pattern of plow-point or blade, according to the character of the ground to be plowed.
As above indicated, the bolt and slot connection or adjustment between the plowstock and the cutter-equipped member and plow-foot allows of the lowering or adjustment of the plow-point, together with said cutter-equipped member, as the former wears away and thus provides for longevity of use of the plow-point and accordingly reducing the cost in the use of plow-points or blades to the minimum.
What is claimed is:
A plow, including a cutter-equipped memher, a plow-stock, a plow-point and fastening means for the said several parts to said plow-stock, said cutter equipped member having a cutting blade outstanding along a vertical edge thereof and a lateral flange along its other vertical edge near the lower end, adapted to laterally engage said plowstock.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afliXed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS T. WELLS.
