.Each clutch member 7c on the surface thereof facing away from the clutch member Z has a terminating or non-continuous Y concentric cam-way e., a cam-way which extends but part way around the axis of rotation of said clutch member) adj oined at its terminus by a surface y extending toward the driving clutch member to form a stop, said surface being in the adaptation shown one side of a recess a. The other side of said recess a merges into a shoulder 2 forming one face of a projection 3 on the clutch member, the disposition of said shoulder being such that in t-he rotation of the clutch member it will engage the roller o3 so that the latter will positively stop the rotation of t-he clutch member. The clutch member 7c under the impulse of clutch memf ber f/Z rotates in the direction of the arrows shown in the drawings, and the cam way m is a cam surface whose rise progresses reversely to the above indicated direction of ret-ation of the clutch member 7c (Figs. 3 and In operation, the clutch members (Z being in rotation, upon pressure being applied to the foot treadle 1^ sufficient to cause levers v to press the clutch membersc into clutching engagement with clutch members d, the former will be rota-ted, winding the cables thereon and therefore raising the load. At this time, it is desirable to provide means for limiting the pressing action of the pressure means, including the levers fv, so that the operator will not inadvertently continue the clutch members in clutch engagement with each other: Hence each bracket w is formed at 4 with a stop which the short arm o2 of the adjoining lever impinges against, preventing its exerting further pressure on member c calculated to reestablish its clutching engagement with clutch member d. When it is desired, now, to allow the load to lower, the pressure on the foot treadle is relaxed until the rollers o3 clear the recesses o, the load of course at this time tending to rotate the clutch members 7c backward. By now removing the pressure from the treadle gradually the operator may ease the fall of the load, having in this the assistance of the rise of the cam surfaces afforded by the cam way w of each clutch member 1, against which the roller 'v3 is bearing, and the coacting resistance afforded by the clutch member al with which at this time the clutch member le is of course held in wiping contact.
By employing the anti-friction bearing, such as rollers o3, as its contact part, the release of the clutch member 7c from the position in which it is held by the lever when it engages the stop g/ is accomplished without binding and instantly upon relaxation of the pressure.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A hoisting mechanism comprising rotary driving and driven clutch members arranged side by side, and means, exerting pressure from opposite sides of 4and upon said members and relatively to which said members are rotary, for forcing said members into clutching engagement with each other, the part of the surface of the driven clutch member receiving the impact of said means being a terminating cam-way extending around the axis of rotation of said member, substantially as described.
2. A hoisting mechanism comprising rotary driving and driven clutch members arranged side by side, and means, exerting pressure from opposite sides of and upon said members and relatively to which said members are rotary, for forcing said members into clutching engagement with each other, the part of the surface of the driven clutch member receiving the impact of said means being a terminating cam-way extending around the axis of rotation of said member, and being adjoined at its terminus by a surface extending toward the driving clutch member and thereby forming a stop for engagement by said means to restrain the driven clutch member against re-rotation, substantially as described.
3. A hoisting mechanism comprising rotary driving and driven clutch members arranged side by side, and means, exerting pressure from opposite sides of and upon said members and relatively to which said members are rotary, for forcing said members into clutching engagement with each other, the part of the surface of the driven 'clutch member receiving the impact of said means being a terminating cam-way extending around the axis of rotation of said member, said driven clutch member having a checking shoulder engageable with said means and substantially coinciding with the terminus of the cam-way, substantially as described.

5. A hoisting mechanism comprising rotary driving and driven clutch members arranged side by side, means, exerting pressure from opposite sides of and upon said members and relatively to which said members are rotary, for forcing said members into clutching engagement with each other, the part of the surface of the driven clutch member receiving the impact of said means being a terminating cam-way extending around the axis of rotation of said member, and being adjoined at its terminus by a surface extending toward the driving clutch member and thereby forming astop for engagement by said means to restrain the driven clutch member against re-rotation,
and means for limiting the pressure of the first means upon the same having engaged said stop, substantially as described.
6. A hoisting mechanism comprising rotary driving and driven clutch members arranged coaxially side by side, the driven clutch member having a cam-way facing away from the driving clutch member, extending around the axis of rotation and formed with a rise progressing in the direction opposite to that assumed by the driven clutch member under the driving impulse of the driving clutch member, and means, engaging said cam-way, for pressing said clutch members into clutching engagement with each other, substantially as described.
7. A hoisting mechanism comprising rotary driving and driven clutch members arranged coaxially side by side, the driven clutch member having a terminating camway facing away from the driving clutch member and extending around the axis of rotation and a surface extending toward the driving clutch member at the terminus of the cam-way to form a stop, and means for pressing said clutch members together into clutching engagement with each other including an anti-friction bearing impinging against said cam-way and, in the rotation of the driven member, adapted to engage said stop and lock the driven member against rerotation, substantially as described.
