VAGINAL DOUCHE-CUIP.
Application filed September 14, 1911.
Specification of Letters Patent. I
Patented July 30, 1912.
Serial No. 649,339.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MnLoHERD H. KU'roH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Terre Haute, in the county of Vigo and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vaginal Douche-Cups, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved vaginal douche cup the primary object of which is the provision of a device of this character by which the fluid of the douche will be disposed of after it shall have entered the part to be treated, and will be drained therefrom without the soiling of the garments of the patient, or of the bed-clothing, thus obviating the use of rubber pads or other devices used to eflect this purpose where the ordinary syringe is employed.
A further object of my invention is the construction of a vaginal douche cup which while simple in construction is so formed as to anatomically coincide with the lines of the part to which it is to be applied and which will be supported in position thereby.
A further object of my invention is the construction of a device of this character by means of which the fluid employed in the douche would be drained from the organ under treatment without passing through the syringe by means of which the said fluid is injected.
A further object of the invention is to provide a douche cup which is entirely separate from and independent of any syringe so that any suitable syringe may be used in connection with said cup.
With these and other objects in view my invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred form of my invention Figure 1 is a sectional view of the cup in position for use, that part of the anatomy to which the same is applied being shown in dotted lines, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the invention.
8 designates the circular closeddownwardly extending front portion of the cup from which rearwardly extend the sides or wing portion 44 having the downwardly inclined edges 55. Said wings are in separated relation from each other and the edges are so curved as to conform to the anatomical lines of the body adjacent the opening of the vagina whereby the edges of said wings will make close contact with the body when the cup is in position for use.
Extending rcarwardly from the upper edge of the wall 6 is a foot piece 7, formed of the curved guiding portion 8 from the end of which extends the ellipse shaped loop 9. By this construction the walls of the vaginal canal are put in a slight tension and as the end portion of the foot piece rests behind the sphincter vaginal muscle the cup is firmly and securely held in position.
In the bottom of the cup immediately back of the vertical rear wall 6 which it will be noticed is the lowest point of the bottom extends a tube drainage 10 adapted to receive at its outer end a tubing 11.
12 designates the discharge tip or nozzle of any desired shape or form of a syringe which, as illustrated in Fig. 1, is passed downwardly through the open top of the cup and into the organ, the upwardly curved portion 8 of the foot piece 7 alfording a guide for the said tip or nozzle and a bearing upon which the same may rest.
When the device is placed in position the fluid injected into the organ through the tip or nozzle 12 and the overflow passes therefrom into the cup and thence through the outlet 9 and the discharge tubing 10. It will be noted that by having the cup so formed that its lowest point is adjacent the wall 6, that when there is liquid in the cup its greatest weight will be at the back and consequently it will be more easily and firmly held in position than it would were the bottom not so arranged. The downward curves 55 of the side wings t-et conforming closely to the lines of the body prevent the escape of the fluid and thereby soiling the garments or the bed clothing.
The device is preferably constructed of aluminum or other light metal.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A vaginal douche apparatus comprising a cup open at its top and rear, and a combined foot-piece and guide connected to said cup and adapted to enter the vaginal canal to support the cup in position, said footpiece being bent upwardly adjacent its con nection with the cup to form a guide for the insertion of the nozzle of a syringe.
2. A vaginal douche cup comprising a bottom, a front wall, and two side walls, and a combined foot-piece and guide extend ing rearwardly from the lower part of the rear of the cup and adapted to be placed in position in the vaginal canal to support the cup in position and to put the Walls of such part under tension, the said foot-piece being formed With an upwardly curved guiding portion and a loop extending laterally from the rear end of such guiding portion, and an opening in the bottom of the cup for draining the same.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
