To all whom. ii may concern: K
lle it known that L-FREDRICH R. .Riinnivrz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oxtord, in the county of lNaI-ren and IStato oi' New Jersey, have invented certain new and useiiil improvements in Burial- Cases, of which the following is a speciiication.
ribis invention relates to improvements in burial cases, and more particularly to those constructed otplast-ic'iiiaterial, such as cenient, concrete or artificial stone formation and made into suitable molds designed 'tor the purpose. i
The object of the invention is to construct a burial case or sarco )hagus that will be satisfying and ornanintal in design, iinpervious to water and vermin, comparatively inexpensive to manufact-ure and practically iniperishable i ld indestructible.
Another object of this invention 'is to provide metallic skeleton frames which are located within the walls ,of the body and top ot' the case, which ran'tes are located within said parts in their formation, for strengthening the saine and therefore rendering them more durable and better adapted tol withstand the rough iisage in shipping,
A tui-ther object ot the invention is to provide a very simple, durable and effect-ive Vmeans ttor lowering and handling the case within a gi' Je and further, in providing iii'eansvtor fattening the cover on the case, said. fastening means, together with the re-v maining metallic parts employed in the formation ot' the case, forming a continuous metallic construction.
Other objects and advantages will be ap parent from the following description and it will be understood that changes in thel specific structure shown and described may `be made within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invent-ion.
.In the drawings: Figure 1 is a top `plan view of the complete invention with the-lid partially broken away, Fig. 2 is a side view of the case and cover with the outer wall partially in section, showing the metallic construction located vwithin the wall. Fig. 3 is avertical longitudinal section ot' the case, Fig. 4i' is a horizontal longitudinal section of the same, Fig. is" an enlarged section of the screw threaded socket and frame attached thereto. y K 'l Referring tothe drawings, lnrepresent-s a box or case which is oi suitable ydii'nensions and shape to itreely receive an ordinar).1 casket and 2 the cover 'for the saine which when lierinetcally scaled in posit-ion upon the box, a vpractical underground vault is obtained, which according to its construction .and plastic material employed in vits formation constitutes an impervious inclosure 4for said casket. As previously stated the case ,or box is primarily constructed of a series 'of longitudinal metallic bars 3, and transversely arranged bars 4, which are arranged at predetermined distances apart and united at their intersecting portions by bolts or rivets 5, all the walls including the bottom for the case being likewise constructed and secured together in their relative position. The trame thus constructed is located within a suitable mold correspondinv in shape to the trame thus constructed and the concrete, cement or other plastic material formed about said frame in the usual manner whereby 'solid Walls including a bottoni are formed inclosing or covering the metallic traine. In the formation ot the box or case as above described, two ledges 6 are provided upon which the casket is adapted to rest when located Wit-hin the box or case, whereby the usual ropes employed for lowering the casket within the bo'x may be easily withdrawn from under the casket wit-hout further disturbing the same. Located with in the cement walls of the box or case thus formed are screw threaded sockets 7, which are arranged at the corners ot' said box, the upper edges of which are substantially flush with the upper edges of the box, the lower surfaces of which are provided with right angular shaped grooves 8, which receive the meeting ends, ot' the metallic 'trame qacent to the upper edge of the boxv or case.,
In order to rigidly secure the screw threaded sockets 7 in their proper position in respect to the metallic skeleton traine, bolts 9 are' passed through the lower ends of the sockets The cover 2 for the box or casemay beef' any suitable design or ornamentation and 1s provided with an inner continuousiange" 11, which 'islocated at a suitable distance lfrom 'the edges of the cover. the outer edges io .and through the meet-ing longitudinal bars of said `flanged portion being snugly in contact with thelinner walls of the oase when the lid is in its proper position, Said flange being formed or east with the cover in the manutaetin'e ot the same. In casting the Cover iongitudinal metallic strips or bars l2 and traneveree bare 13 are located and arranged Within its Wall ina like manner to that previously deseribed in reference to the elieleton frame provided for the Case or box. lor property strengthening the said corer and rendering the same more durable for shipping and usage.
, Seem-ed to the corner` of the top Zure .loops or eiailiior: il through which ropes arer adapted to he passed for lowering the cover in. its proper position upon the case, and by their construction the ropes employed may be easiiy removed in the usual manner.
In practice serew eyeS 1.5 are first 'screwed into the sei-ew threaded sockets 7, which provide means for lowering the box Within a grave by suitable ropes after which said .Screw eyes may be removed and ordinary boite lef paseed'through suitable openings in the cover and. into the screw threaded sockets i' for finally securing the cover" in its proper position upon the boi;7 after which the cover may be hernietieally sealed in the weil known manner,
lVhat is claimed is:
A concrete burial case having a metallic frame work embedded therein, and end blocks embedded in the corners of the oase, .said end bloelis having passages formed 'therein to receive the ends of the frame members and being' formed with a threaded passage. extending down fard from t-h'e upper face of the block, and bolts passing through the blocks exterior to said threaded passage and transvereely of theother passages and through the ende of theY frame work to .secure the frame-work in the paseages in the block, the block projecting upward through the frame work and lying finish with the top of the rage, whereby said blot-lcs forni both corner frame securing and hrm-ing members and aleo provide sockets to engratfe the top securing device.
In testimony whereof affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
