Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed August 29, 1911.
Patented July 23, 1912. Serial No. 646,620.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Justin E. Ross, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Springfield, in the county of Greene and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Telephone Attachment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Mr invention relates to telephone attachm uts and it has'for its objectto provide one having an ear tube with members connecting the ear tube with clamping members, which embrace the conical portion of a telephone receiver, to press the'cushion member mounted on the ear tube against. the head of the receiver, around the opening in the said head.
- Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following complete specification in which the preferred form of the invention is disclosed.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a tele phone receiver, provided with my attachment; Fig. is side elevation of Fig. 1,
partially in section; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that an ear tube 5 is provided, to which the terminals 6 of curved arms 7 are secured; the other terminals 9 of these curved arms 7 are'securedto bracket members 8. Each of the bracket members 9 has flanges 10 at its si'des,-there being orifices 11 in the flanges, through which the bolts 12 are disposed, these bolts being engaged by nuts 13 for pressing the flanges 10 and with them the clamping members, in the direction of' each other. These clamping members 9 cmbrace the conical portion 14 of the telephone receiver 15.. Disposed in the ear tube there is a tube 16 of a cushion 17 this cushion 17 extending outwardlyfrom the inner end of the tube 16, and being disposed against the head 19 of the telephone receiver 15 around the openings 18 therein.
In using the invention the tube 16 of the cushion 17 is disposed in the ear tube 5 with the cushion 17 forming an outer flange on the inner end of the tube 16 so that when the ear tube 5 is disposed in position and the nuts 13 are turned home on. the bolts 12, the clamps 9 will be forced in the direction of each other at the conical portion 14 of the telephone receiver 15, which will force the clamps 9 inward and with them the ear tube 5 the said ear tube 5, through the instriunenta-lity of the arms 7, pressing the cushion 17 against the head 19 to prevent the escape of sound waves between the ear tube 5 and the head 19.
Having thus described my invention 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a telephone attachment arms haw ing members for embracing a receiver, an ear tube supported by the arms, and a cushion member having a tubular portion engaging the inner side of the ear tube, the cushion member closely fitting. the head of the receiver, and being disposed between the ear tube and the head of the receiver for holding the ear tube out of contact with the head of the receiver.
2. In a telephone attachment two bracket members for embracing the conical portion of a receiver, means for drawing the bracket members in the direction at each other, an ear tub e, members connectiim the ear tube with the bracket members. a tubular member disposed in the ear tube and an outer cushioning flange on the tubular member disposed between the ear tube and the head of the receiver.
