HENRY S. JUDD AND HENRY PLETSCH, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNORS T0 JUDD LAUNDRY MACHINE COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF DELA- WARE.
WRINGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1912.
end elevation with parts broken away; Fig.
3, an end elevation showing the wringer attached to a washing machine; Figs. fl: and 5, details of the delivery trays.
Like parts are indicated by like letters throughout the several figures.
The wringer frame made up of the side pieces A, cross piece A and tie rod A contains the rolls B, B, which are mounted upon the shafts B The ball bearings B which are held in the grooves B in the side pieces A, support the shafts B The spiral springs G mounted in the grooves 13 are adapted to engage at one end the supports C C and at the other, the supports C The thumb screws C adjustably mounted in the cross piece A are adapted to vary the compression in the springs. The shafts B have at their outer extremities the engaging gears D surrounded by the gear case D which is rigidly attached to the end piece A. This gear case projects but to such height on the outside of the end piece A that it becomes impossible to oil the bearings B from the outside and for this reason it is necessary to provide at one end the support C which has the opening D in communication with the opening D which leads to the interior of the ball hearing.
The reversible water board E is mounted upon the upwardly projecting frames E which have the downwardly depending lugs E provided with the slots E to ride upon the tie rod A The swinging arms F pivoted about the lugs F carry the rollers F and are provided with the plates F to engage when in the upper position the springs F upon the top of the wringer and when in the lower the recesses F in the drip board frames to lock them. The side pieces A are held by means of the bolts G to the upwardly extending standards G which project from the washing machine frame Gr The tray H is provided at one side with the upwardly projecting edge H at the other with the upwardly projecting wall H and the outwardly projecting lip H and has at its upper end the upwardly curved member H which is adapted to engage the tie rod A and about which the trough may be rotatably adjusted. The trough J has the upwardly projecting sides J carrying the rods J which have the downwardly bent ends J to engage the sockets J on the side pieces A to hold the tray in position above the tub.
It will be evident that while we have shown in our drawings an operative device, still numerous changes might be made in the size, shape and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of our invention, and we wish, therefore, that the drawings be considered as diagrammatic. I
The sockets j* are removably connected with the wringer in any desired manner, as by means of the screws J The water or drip board E is provided on its underside at each end with means for preventing the wa ter from moving along such underside after it reaches theend of the drip board. VVithout such means this water tends to be carried up the underside of the drip board by capillary attraction. Any suit-able means for this purpose may be used. As herein shown the drip board is provided at each end with a groove E so as to provide, as it were, a projection E at the end. "When the water reaches the end of the board, for ex ample, and attempts to move up the underside, it will pass along the projection E and reach the groove E and will then drop off because it cannot move across said groove or up the vertical face thereof.
The use and operation of our invention are as follows: We provide in connection with the usual type of wringer comprising side pieces, springs and rollers, the novel features of a reversible drip board wherein the board is not only rotatably mounted,
but also may be bodily displaced so that the edge of the board can be drawn toward the Wringer leaving but a small portion of the board projecting beyond the delivery side of the Wringer rolls, thus placing the board in a position Where it Will offer no obstruction to the delivery of the clothes to a receptacle. We also provide auxiliary feeding rolls for the Wringer, said rolls being movably mounted so that the roll on the delivery side may be removed from the wringing roller and held in position above the wringing rolls. The arms upon Which these rolls are mounted act also as stops to hold the drip board in position. We provide also a long tray extending from the Wringer over the top of a Washing machine When the Wringer is set up in connection with a Washing machine and a shorter tray extending from the Wringer in the opposite direction, the longer tray being supported by sockets upon the Wrin'ger frame, the
shorter by a hook arrangement integral with the tray adapted to engage the tie-rod in the Wringer.
WVe claim 1. The combination with a Wringer of a plurality of feed rolls, and supports for each of said rolls, said supports being pivotally mounted upon the wringer above the Wringer rolls.
2. The combination With a Wringer of a reversible drip board, said board adapted to be laterally displaced, a plurality of bodily movable feed rolls and supports for said rolls adapted to lock the drip board in posi tion.
8. The combination With a Wringer of a reversible drip board, said board adapted to be laterally displaced, a plurality of feed rolls, and supports for each of said rolls, 40 said supports being pivotally mounted upon the Wringer and adapted to lock the drip board in position. I
4. The combination With a Wringer of a reversible transversely movable drip board mounted at either end upon a frame, a centrally located depression in each of said frames, a plurality of feed rolls for said wringer and supports for said rolls adapted to engage the depressions in the frames.
5. The combination with a \vringer of a plurality of bodily movable feed rolls and means for holding one of said rolls in the operating position, said means including a drip board, having a plurality of upwardly projecting frames.
6. The combination With a Wringer of a plurality of bodily movable feed rolls and means for holding one of said rolls in the operating position, said means including a reversible drip board, having a plurality of upwardly projecting frames.
7. The combination with a Wringer of a plurality of bodily movable feed rolls and means for holding one of said rolls in the operating position, said means including a bodily movable reversible drip board, having a plurality of upwardly projecting frames.
