ITNESSESI a INVEN U W 1 19 i n i I E] Q 7 n I Z gTTY I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE B. HART, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
ARTICLE-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE B. HART, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Article- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a device of improved construction, adapted to holding flowers, whether contained within vases or other suitable wrapping and inclosing mediums, or for holding candle sticks or like bodies and that can be made, preferably from single strands of wire or rods, in order to reduce to a minimum the weight and the cost of manufacture, and also to provide an article for the purpose described which may be readily cleaned and which is adapted to yieldably and releasably engage the articles to be held thereby when varying within a moderate range as to size.
I may mention also that in a device, in accordance with my invention, individual coil portions or members thereof mutually cooperate to form a support for the entire structure of such combined members.
The accompanying drawings illustrate that embodiment of my invention adapted to use as a holder for tubular vases although I do not limit myself, however, to such or any particular embodiment or use of my invention.
The drawings are as follows,-
Figure l is a plan view and Fig. 2 a side view of a device in accordance with my invention adapted to holding a number of vases or like articles while Fig. 3 shows, in an enlarged side elevation, one of the individual coil members thereof with a vase held therein.
Similar parts are designated by similar reference characters throughout the several figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings,A series of wires or rods as p, 79 p and 29 have open coils P, P, P and P respectively formed at their ends and such wires are joined together at or near their centers by means of binding wires 1, preferably soldered thereto, and the wires p and p are bent as indicated to secure the relative arrangement of the coils P, P, P and P such as indicated. In
Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 666,596.
the center of the device there may also be supported an open coil H which may be made of larger wire, if desired, and adapted to receive and support a larger vase or like article and held in place by means of wire clips h which may also be soldered. The arrangement is such, it will be seen, as to afford a satisfactory support for the combined series of supporting coils.
In Fig. 3 one of the coils P is shown and a part of the wire 79 from which the same is formed and a vase T is shown engaging therein and held thereby.
WVhile the primary purpose of a device in accordance with my invention is perhaps to hold flowers preferably in tubular vases as illustrated, still the device, as shown, is adapted also to hold candles or like articles.
WVhat I claim is:
1. A device for the purpose described embodying a series of connected sections each comprising two open coiled portions integrally formed at opposite ends of a single wire each adapted to receive and releasably engage the article to be held thereby, such sections connected together and coiiperating to mutually support each other.
2. A device for the purpose described embodying, a series of connected sections each comprising two open coiled portions integrally formed at opposite ends of a single wire each adapted to receive and releasably engage the article to be held thereby, such sections connected together and cooperating to mutually support each other and an open coiled portion centrally disposed relative to the other coils of the series supported from and connected to the wires between the coils to comprise also a bracing means for the wires between the coils.
3. A device for the purpose described comprising a series of similar sections each comprising an open coiled member having one terminal of the wire thereof extending in a direction substantially axial to the coil outwardly and away from the coil, such extensions connected together and such sections mutually cooperating to support each other.
